Final group matches tonight & tomorrow, before the tourny really begins...
Whizzed through the markets and placed several small bets for tonight's matches, as well as 2 main bets.
Ted Hankey v Michael Smith:
Our man Ted not only scooped a "170" checkout, he turned on the style to K.O. Chisnall, and now meets rising youngster Michael Smith in a winner takes all match, where a defeat could well be Ted's last stand on the darting tv stage. On a positive note, a win for Hankey would extend his stay and see him in the last 16, where he would play either Whitlock, Newton, or Webster.
Hankey admitted his tactical play against Chisnall wasn't working, so he returned to his natural game and was superb! I sense more on stage antics as the old dog can't change his ways, even if he wants to.
Both players have been inconsistent so far. Hankey's and Smith's tourny stats are pretty similar with both beating Chisnall, and losing to Waites. Hankey winnning his 2nd group match has but him in a good place mentally, he's last match on and WILL use/abuse his presence on the oche. All roads lead to a Hankey win, will the added bonus of vic going odds against.
Simon Whitlock v Wes Newton:
Whitlock's already qualified, finishing top of the group, so will be nicely relaxed, whereas Newton might need to win by at least a couples of legs, (depending on Webster's result against Ross Smith). I thought the spread would be 4.5 x 180's, so to see it 3.5 in places makes it my bet of the night.

Lori my thoughts exactly. Whitlock who is already through could easily be as lively as a Barney Curley drifter

I'v laid whitlock partly on the basis that all he cares about is trying to hit a 170

I also laid Whitlock. 1.57 ridiculous in this short format, even more so against the throw

Completely off topic really but who do the fans on here think will be the next player to really break into the top 16? I think guys like Jenks must be on borrowed time but is there any really promising players who could go on to big things?

Obviously I'll say Wright, but the reality of him is that he's probably too old to really surge. I always liked Harms' attitude but he doesn't seem to be going forward - but then MVG didn't go forward for a long time.
I'm not good enough with the really young 'uns to know, but none of those on show this week, or Monk, or any of the hyped ones have impressed me at all.

The other for me would be Kellett. Seems that he avoids the bs bandwagon and just plods along and he was clearly doing great things at some point to have earned that silly BDO price a couple years back. If he gets more hours in by sneaking some money in the PDC then he could be one I reckon. (Mardle I think it was hinted at this yesterday)

Barney would get in the PL if he were 100th in the world (well, nearly), for some unfathomable reason he's massively popular.
I like Kellett just wonder about his attitude. Remember he won in R1 two years ago with about a 100 average then got totally ****ed in the bar before R2
There's no-one in the PDC really. Sky are probably right in so much as Smith and Cullen are the best young ones but they're way behind.
I've always liked Harms. I think he could do well if he switched and learned to hit the occasional 180.

I think that's why he's a decent longshot for me. He actually has the ability. Some of these hyped guys are just half decent but hard to see how they can improve.

Just looked at full list and think that although he is in the top 16 already that Huybrechts looks the most likely to go on to be top 4 material. Looking at ones on the fringes it all looks like guys on the way down not up

Is the bad Huybrechts in there? He seems good enough (I'm sure it's just hobo in a mask)

If Dolan gets into top 16 and appears more on the tv I might start crying. Smith and kellett on fringes of top 32 which would be huge for them. Apart from that there ain't much coming

whitlock must practice getting down to 170 for hours every day, that was stunning to switch to 19s with 404 left

Do you think it was agreed that if it got to 4-4, Whitlock wouldn't reallyp put much effort into the last leg?
I think whitlock also tried to leave 170 in leg 1, missed 25 and hit bull so 145 left
Whitlock definitely didnt care too much for 180s there, he was swithcing to 18s after 2 perfect darts even when the 170 wasnt on

was really hoping hankey mania was going to take the market over after yesterday, made smith 1.68 before the throw in this one and thought we could have seen 1.9 or so on here

Not sure this game far more important to smith, pretty crucial for ted too.
The fans are actually on ted's side its a miracle
I would have been a bit lower if they played first game up, and if Smith didn't have to put up with Hankey slow playing

Agreed Eldrick, it's the doubles that are the problem.
Don't really understand why he's let Ted effect him so badly.
Who would have backed Hankey to get through after first matches, with him losing 5-3 off an 82 average to waites - and having to face smith (103 av) and chisnall (99 av) next up
Anderson will tell him what he did wrong over 39 cups of coffee in the morning.
Not to mention his face looking like it had melted after stroke during last grand slam, and having a car crash/whiplash not long ago, and another anklebiter arrive to stop him getting any decent sleep/practice in
