Final group matches tonight & tomorrow, before the tourny really begins...

Whizzed through the markets and placed several small bets for tonight's matches, as well as 2 main bets.

Ted Hankey v Michael Smith:
Our man Ted not only scooped a "170" checkout, he turned on the style to K.O. Chisnall, and now meets rising youngster Michael Smith in a winner takes all match, where a defeat could well be Ted's last stand on the darting tv stage. On a positive note, a win for Hankey would extend his stay and see him in the last 16, where he would play either Whitlock, Newton, or Webster.

Hankey admitted his tactical play against Chisnall wasn't working, so he returned to his natural game and was superb! I sense more on stage antics as the old dog can't change his ways, even if he wants to.
Both players have been inconsistent so far. Hankey's and Smith's tourny stats are pretty similar with both beating Chisnall, and losing to Waites.  Hankey winnning his 2nd group match has but him in a good place mentally, he's last match on and WILL use/abuse his presence on the oche. All roads lead to a Hankey win, will the added bonus of vic going odds against.

Simon Whitlock v Wes Newton:
Whitlock's already qualified, finishing top of the group, so will be nicely relaxed, whereas Newton might need to win by at least a couples of legs, (depending on Webster's result against Ross Smith). I thought the spread would be 4.5 x 180's, so to see it 3.5 in places makes it my bet of the night.

Whitlock v Newton: Total 180's - OVER 3.5 @ 8/11 general

Edward Hankey v Michael Smith
Hankey to Win @ 11/10 vic

Wesley a big big here with the throw isn't he? What have I missed.
Report happyhibee November 11, 2013 10:16 PM GMT
Lori my thoughts exactly. Whitlock who is already through could easily be as lively as a Barney Curley drifter

Wes newton easily one of the dullest darts players plus he clearly rates himself higher than his actual ability
Report Lori November 11, 2013 10:16 PM GMT
How are you finding out the throw early? Is it on the scoreboard thingy again?
Report the silverback November 11, 2013 10:18 PM GMT
I'm trusting 365's first leg winner prices Lori
Report Lori November 11, 2013 10:18 PM GMT
cheers :)

Is Newton's lurch forward getting worse?
Report Lori November 11, 2013 10:19 PM GMT
Not sure... Painter's definitely is.
Report Eldrick November 11, 2013 10:19 PM GMT
I'v laid whitlock partly on the basis that all he cares about is trying to hit a 170
Report Toto82 November 11, 2013 10:20 PM GMT
Any twitter account good for telling us who has the throw?
Report Lori November 11, 2013 10:20 PM GMT
Don't think that's the worst strategy
Report Toto82 November 11, 2013 10:20 PM GMT
I also laid Whitlock.  1.57 ridiculous in this short format, even more so against the throw
Report the silverback November 11, 2013 10:21 PM GMT
I'm laying a 170 purely on the basis its all Whitlock cares about
Report Lori November 11, 2013 10:21 PM GMT
Doesn't sound the worst plan either of you :D

short format Laugh  I've heard that enough for one year.
Report happyhibee November 11, 2013 10:23 PM GMT
Completely off topic really but who do the fans on here think will be the next player to really break into the top 16? I think guys like Jenks must be on borrowed time but is there any really promising players who could go on to big things?
Report Lori November 11, 2013 10:25 PM GMT
Everyone if sky are to be believed!

Obviously I'll say Wright, but the reality of him is that he's probably too old to really surge. I always liked Harms' attitude but he doesn't seem to be going forward - but then MVG didn't go forward for a long time.

I'm not good enough with the really young 'uns to know, but none of those on show this week, or Monk, or any of the hyped ones have impressed me at all.
Report happyhibee November 11, 2013 10:26 PM GMT
Wright's already in top 16 tho Lori Happy
Report Lori November 11, 2013 10:26 PM GMT
oops
Report Toto82 November 11, 2013 10:26 PM GMT
I think Michael Smith. He's had unlucky draws in a lot of tourneys which have held him back up to now
Report Eldrick November 11, 2013 10:27 PM GMT
newton's graph on here is starting to resemble a big gormless grin
Report Lori November 11, 2013 10:28 PM GMT
The other for me would be Kellett.  Seems that he avoids the bs bandwagon and just plods along and he was clearly doing great things at some point to have earned that silly BDO price a couple years back. If he gets more hours in by sneaking some money in the PDC then he could be one I reckon. (Mardle I think it was hinted at this yesterday)
Report Eldrick November 11, 2013 10:28 PM GMT
here comes the negative sine wave
Report Lori November 11, 2013 10:28 PM GMT
hahhaah Eldrick, brilliant.

barney down to 10th in the world wonder if he might miss out on PL as a result
Report Lori November 11, 2013 10:29 PM GMT
Barney would get in the PL if he were 100th in the world (well, nearly), for some unfathomable reason he's massively popular.
Report happyhibee November 11, 2013 10:29 PM GMT
I like Kellett just wonder about his attitude. Remember he won in R1 two years ago with about a 100 average then got totally ****ed in the bar before R2
Report the silverback November 11, 2013 10:30 PM GMT
There's no-one in the PDC really. Sky are probably right in so much as Smith and Cullen are the best young ones but they're way behind.

I've always liked Harms. I think he could do well if he switched and learned to hit the occasional 180.

Wright is probably the 3rd best player in the world off TV Lori! And he is surging.
Report Lori November 11, 2013 10:30 PM GMT
I think that's why he's a decent longshot for me. He actually has the ability. Some of these hyped guys are just half decent but hard to see how they can improve.

Take Kellett as a crap thin Bingo.
Report happyhibee November 11, 2013 10:32 PM GMT
Just looked at full list and think that although he is in the top 16 already that Huybrechts looks the most likely to go on to be top 4 material. Looking at ones on the fringes it all looks like guys on the way down not up

17. Brendan Dolan
18. Ronnie Baxter
19. Gary Anderson
20. Paul Nicholson
21. Steve Beaton
22. Jamie Caven

hardly inspiring is it?
Report Lori November 11, 2013 10:33 PM GMT
Is the bad Huybrechts in there? He seems good enough (I'm sure it's just hobo in a mask)
Report Lori November 11, 2013 10:33 PM GMT
Caven's playing better than 22nd isn't he? or has he gone to toilet again? (I know he's awful on TV)
Report happyhibee November 11, 2013 10:34 PM GMT
If Dolan gets into top 16 and appears more on the tv I might start crying. Smith and kellett on fringes of top 32 which would be huge for them. Apart from that there ain't much coming
Report happyhibee November 11, 2013 10:34 PM GMT
Think Ronnie is mid 30's
Report Lori November 11, 2013 10:34 PM GMT

whitlock must practice getting down to 170 for hours every day, that was stunning to switch to 19s with 404 left
Report happyhibee November 11, 2013 10:36 PM GMT
Dolan is actually 15th after winning the players event last week when the top 16 were all up here christ almighty

Report Eldrick November 11, 2013 10:39 PM GMT
I think whitlock also tried to leave 170 in leg 1, missed 25 and hit bull so 145 left
Report Toto82 November 11, 2013 10:41 PM GMT
Whitlock definitely didnt care too much for 180s there, he was swithcing to 18s after 2 perfect darts even when the 170 wasnt on

Report Eldrick November 11, 2013 10:56 PM GMT
I would have been a bit lower if they played first game up, and if Smith didn't have to put up with Hankey slow playing

I can't get massively excited about backing these youth players on tv, as they so frequently show very little bottle for the big doubles
