Was quite surprised when I saw that Iyer hadn't been chosen over Vihari - he looked right at home making debut in NZ series.
By:
Jansen is a serious bowler. And 21 years old!! Scary.
![]() No run-up, not far from express and seems to have accuracy in hand. What's not to love?! |
By:
must be a vacancy (Rahane) barring a big second inns score..the Puj' under pressure as well..even Kohli could do with some runs when he returns - lean calendar year and falling out with the selectors...
By:
Vihari is the first cab on the rank. I think Iyer is better but there is some sort of system in place. He was the man in the chair but injury forced him out so he gets a chance first. I think Iyer comes in for Pujara in any case next match if India win. I don’t have a problem with Pujara it’s just the others deserve a chance.

Dude
Jansen is a bean pole. He bowls in excess of 141. When he gets his man strength or somebody introduces him to a dumbbell there is going to be carnage. Don’t forget the batsmen will be softened up by Rabada and Nortje first! |

Forecast currently offering up what looks like a four-day Test, here. It's a way out but heavy rain starting late Thursday and running through Friday
By:
incredibly difficult forecast to get right though...the leaden skies sometimes last hours before the rain spills but agree it certainly looks pretty iffy
By:
You said that about the gym and Jansen last time out and I don't disagree but it may be that he doesn't need much muscle. Aside from a bit of protection.
Jof still a relative bean pole (though I accept this could be part of the source of some elbow issues). Somewhat different bowler but McGrath never had much in the way of heft, could be that Jansen ends up more in that mould given he has the height and accuracy on tap. |
By:
Don't tell my wife but after typing the above and appraising further, I've just Googled 'Jofra Archer body'.
Turns out I am wrong there, I've scratched that bean pole hypothesis from my roster. |
By:
Nah the Jof although slim is muscled.
Fast bowlers don’t Ashley need to be muscle Mary’s. They have natural lace which you cannot buy. A little muscle helps protect and might jus5 give a little extra is all. I’d like to see what his dad looks like I thought the Rabada wicket looked ver6 close to a no ball. I have not seen that replay from the home broadcaster yet! |
By:
Ooh that was close!
By:
Both Rabada and Olivier are at least 10 kph down on pace
By:
could be on for a slightly early finish today though game moving on...

I just do not see SA as odds on favourites. Total looks below par fir sure. How much better will the wicket be tomorrow?
By:
Having said that their two openers are pretty decent and Elgar is a real limpet once in.
By:
Heavy roller!
By:
India did give many of their wickets away
By:
All caught
By:
Elgar a limpet and a warrior in terms of the value he places on his wicket but still a f'in drama queen of the highest order when it comes to accentuating deliveries that have the temerity to do literally anything...
By:
True but would you rather have Burns, Sibley, Crawley or Hameed instead of Elgar
?I agree with commentators. Markram should bat at 4. |
By:
not been easy but a dissapointing series for Markram so far ...quite rate him on what I've seen..
must be a couple of second hand saffers we could get hold of to open... need to re-value the County Championship if we're going to turn it around in the longer form..an almost crazily bare cupboard of credible batting options...yet white ball spoilt for choice.. the hundred was probably one tournament too many though longer from scheduling needs a look at as well.. |
By:
Anyone think’ it might be a good time to start getting on India? Effects of roller wearing off here? Ball is old but still seaming
By:
By:
Either way, would not want to be lumping SA at 1.92 here. (But still haven't laid them, either)
Was difficult for new batters yesterday so could get wickets in clumps. SA around 100-1 at lunch could be LAY time. Reticent to back India with 5th day forecast. |
By:
bowled well India, unlucky not to get one and that may well have bought two or three but going to remain hard graft for sure and plenty of encouragement for Ashwin especially if they have a 4th inns total to defend...Siraj fitnessissue a prob for them as pressure released a fair bit when Bumrah and Shami were replaced
By:
Or 1.80 here
![]() ![]() |
By:
Tentative lay at 1.79.

By:
Shame cos Siraj has been something of a weapon for them recently

They all seem to offer things at different times.

By:
Well...very happy I got in a lay at 1.68.
VERY disappointed I fat-fingered the lot back at 1.83 on the wicket. ![]() |

By:
Your man Petersen looks very accomplished, WD.
Looks to have 'good eyes', so he gets away with playing slightly away from his body (a bit like Steve Smith) |
By:
Very impressed with SA this morning. It has nit been easy. Effects of roller wearing off here. I fully expect India to get a first innings lead.
SA need a new opener with Markram movin* to 4. They could be a very decent side, certainly at home. Nortje in for Olivier. |
By:
Yes. He has looked good on two difficult pitches. I would like to see him on a flat one! Some Kwality cricket being played by bot( sides here
By:
nit* - love it

Finding it difficult to resist another lay here at 1.85.
Verreynne at 6, Jansen at 7, Rabada at 8 ![]() |
