What a pitiful innings, 205. We'll soon see what use that is.

Here's the good news: we've stopped our run of declining scores in this series: 578/178/134/164/112/81.
End of good news.

There has been a very sad inevitability about the England batting. Without Root in the first test chances are every score would have been well under par. Even he looked really uncomfortable in today's short stay. The odd 40 or 50 here and there isn't going to win you anything.

The gamble of playing the extra batsman has already failed and the bowling line up looks threadbare. It is getting harder and harder to believe that they actually won a test.

We are too reliant on Root or Stokes getting a score as yet again a very poor batting effort as nothing wrong with that pitch on the 1st day and a score of 300 should have been obtained

I don't understand these are professional batsmen. They can pay people to bowl at them all day long. Pujara bats against spinners in the nets for up to six hours in a day! How can you not have a plan to counter spin bowling. Why would you try sweeping as an exercise just because your Captain did it successfully? When did the Brains Trust decide the way to play was coming down the wicket? Had they prepared for more than 2 days?

Some of these players have such glaring deficiencies in their technique, don't they want to become better players or is that " the way I play " ?

On the other hand the Indian spinners were magnificent great at bowling straight at the stumps. I am a little surprised I was never called up to play for England. I could bowl straight by the age of 12!

Nice to see the media looking pathetic again though

After the 1st test it was "the greatest side to tour India"... That escalated quickly (As per usual with the media)

this could go one of two ways..India either bat well, our spinners prove to be relatively toothless and they get nearly 400 and all but win by an inns

or we've been prematurely written off and they only get 250ish and we get ourselves a baw game

just have a feeling it may be nearer the latter

Not feeling the love for The Engerland tbh but some think this game is still there for the taking. I just can't see England taking it. Not sure Stokes will get any wickets! Bess cpould be hit out of the attack that leaves Leach who is half decent, Root who is better than many think and Anderson who if he was Pakistani would be revered as a God.

I think today I shall wait and see if there is a response from England otherwise I expect India to compile well over 300.

Funny enough Sonts I think England are an excellent side and will give Aussie some trouble down under but they are good in " conventional " conditions. They have been undone in the membrane here. India is a difficult place and they have a magnificent team.

Both Lawrence and Pope imho are Test Match standard. I am still not sure about England openers although despite this tour do have mental fortitude. Aside from Root and Stokes they all have flaws in their technique but on non spinning wickets they are kwality enough. The seam bowling attack is up there. The spinners are not but Leach is ok.The balance of the England team is pretty good generally. I have been extremely disappointed with everything England have done in India from the management to the players, absolutely hopeless!

fielding in cricket is superb these days, i personally think that bowling was better in the 70s and 80s, but my god there is no doubt that test match batting is woeful now.

England time wasting tactics make sense as with just 2 seamers + useless Bess, fewer overs bowled per session the better

No, johnny, not due to. The number of wickets falling, as last time, means there's no earthly possibility of a 5 day Test. Anything shorter than 4 days isn't right, you know that.

It's also tough to work out why a team in India's position in this match can possible justify 1.36. Madness, surely?

numero nueve..i beg to differ..wkts falling makes it more intriguing..tests take the time it takes to get a result or not..no God given 'right' to last 5 days

Whatever the pitch these have been excellent matches to watch I think

Schadenfreude would be lovely, India batting last on this but can England post a total?
