England go in with an extra batsman are defending a lead?
Axar hasn't opened the bowling, I'm taking this as a good sign, ie a sign the Test may go into the weekend. |

Spreads have Eng in for 280, I'd take that

Pretty awful from both openers. Johnnylooks like bambi out there but this pitch should yield runs on the first day. Taking a chance on the Engerland here why I don't know but they have to do better on this. I would have moved Foakes up the order. Seeing as we are batting first I would have put him in at 3 at worst 4. Root should not be batting before lunch. I would have Bstard batting at 6.
Interesting to see what happens after 20 overs or so. If England can't score runs off overs 40-80 something is very wrong. They say the pitch will dry out quickly. England must make India bat last and spend some time in the field. |

Joffra may have liked this pitch!

draw price has halved in 3 overs, nice trade for the (very) brave.

So poor from England this morning!
Very good ball mind but |

Cracking Test Match wicket this.

Petula Clark!

I thought India was cricket-mad: here we have a stadium built for 100,000+, with about 1500 people in. What's that all about?
By:
I think they like to see their heroes bat, wait until tomorrow!
Capacity limited to 50,000 for this match I think |
By:
This is a 350 wicket for me! I started backing overs at 280.5
all the way down to 194.5The afternoon should belong to the batting team! |
By:
50,000 capacity, just over 1,000 in!
By:
It took a while for out batsman to have confidence to play the pitch on it’s merits, still a bit in if for the seamers, but if we can see them off after lunch we should get a respectable total, but we look a bowler light, gonna be no hiding place for Leach and Bess.
By:
That's a big IF
By:
Commentators unfeasibly bullish re England during lunch break. Win toss and 3 down before lunch, for heaven's sake!
By:
I would expect England to post a total but it is a big if with these guys!
I am glad Lawrence is playing. Pope looks out of sorts on this tour but is a great prospect. I think Lawrence has something about him too and will be a Test Match batsman. |

Ashwin v Stokes, now let's have a look at the record here............

TV pundits are so bad I am listening to Talk Sport 2, much better

By:
If Ben keeps blocking it'll end badly for him. Wasn't too far away there.
By:
Good luck bad luck again
By:
Beaten all ends up, to be fair.
By:
After Pope's (short) sojourn and the untested Lawrence we'll eventually get a batsman in who knows what he's doing - too late, naturally.
By:
India getting all the umpires calls
By:
Yes Foakes should be in the middle working that ball
By:
Pope should be ok on this wicket
By:
That's a generous assessment of the lad: 34/28/22/12/1/12 so far.

The commentary is for Indian ears. Channel 4 don't have their own.

My comments re commentators referred to the home presenters during lunch break.

It’s up to the young pups now
By:
Completely diddled by 3 balls in a row!
By:
Bad luck there for Pope but he was searching for the ball too hard and not playing under his eyes
By:
Not bad luck.
By:
Bad shot yes but bad luck to be caught off his knee
By:
Yes, fair comment re knee, but he hadn't a clue about either of the 2 previous balls, which was his good luck, not that it amounted to anything.
By:
Forum still trying to convince itself Foakes is a better option than Jos The Boss is it?
By:
Stupid and arrogant wanted to get to 50 with a six
So cool from Pant! |
By:
Tbf Cardinal Butler has not had to face this sort of thing although I would like to see some CONTROLLED counter attacking!
Not batting in India certainly makes you look a better batsman! |

This is really shocking from England today and all series. We were laughing at the Saffers a couple of years ago but this is so inept from some pretty decent batsmen. Inthin’ they have been done in the brain rather than off the wicket
