They figure that if England can bat against the great Ravi Ashwin then the pitch is a toad, which, it is at the moment and slow. The questions are can Engerland bat beyond tea tomorrow and will the pitch break up?
It will spin more consistently but it may well be slow spin so again the question as is from the start of the match is will this pitch break up or die. I have all my red on India, which, I am happy with and have started laying the draw at odds on although by tea tomorrow it is likely to be lower still unless of course India can get back into this. I don’t think so. England have a formidable middle order. |

Good start from England although I suspect pushing for a win might be difficult.
Just a question for those who know the rules better than me - why didn't a new batsman have to come out for the last three balls? |

stadium clock had just passed close and it was final over of the day differentdrum so new batsman doesn't need to appear - think if wicket was 1 minute earlier he'd have had to have walked out for the 3 balls.
I reckon he should have had to come out as conditions were fine but laws are laws |

Thanks, it still seems quite strange to me that if you have started an over before time you can't finish it.
Quite a big deal for England because presumably, they would have sent out a nightwatchman. |

England actually playing spin quite well
Beating Sri Lanka comfortably away from home is no mean feat, and now on top in the first test here |

SS: Sri Lanka in reconstruction, a shadow of their former self (containing 3 world-class greats); so, while beating them on their home soil is very good, it ain't anything special. Batting all day on a featherbed, also, is good but nowt special. Now the skippers current form, that IS special. Our three least potent batsmen have been got out, our four top class bats have day 2 to themselves. Good-oh!

Unless the pitch starts to crumble can't see an England win, no chance of taking 20 India wickets on this.
India still in with a chance of winning if they can restrict England to 450 or less and then go huge in their first innings like they did last time we played them here |

 I still have laughs at the Pakistan series in the UAE in 2012 where we somehow managed to lose the 2nd test despite only chasing 140, spun out for 72 And the 3rd test having them out for less than a hundred only to get spun out for sub 150 again Its not like they made big scores either we were just pathetic against spin all through that series So its nice to see we've improved on that front |

In don’t think our spinners are good enough but I have a feeling our fast bowlers may get better reverse Than they did. I think Leach is good enough to hold an end and the fact there is no pace may help England when the ball is soft. The curator had rolled black clay on top of the indigenous red. The surface still looks hard now but if it does bake it may break by day 4 and 5.
I would not want to be on India but am also not sure if this is an England win or a draw |

I'm still up. Did anyone see that massive puff of dust come off Ashwin?? It's not even lunch and the draw is odds on when the pitch looks like breaking up. I'm on Eng at 3.16. India will find this very hard later in the game, Eng have a massive advantage to say the least.

A good first hour for England, great to hear Root talk about 600+ and batting into tomorrow, this is def not one of those occasions when you can get 450+, relax and late order batsman can have a swish.

Does not look easy fir new batsmen though with the Kwality India have if one or two get in they will be hard to dislodge.
Again I say England will use the old ball better and get reverse. They have quicker bowlers to exploit late swing. I really cannot see India winning this |
