About the mafeking post, I don't understand why you guys keep saying they'll play all 98 overs. They'll play at usual pace and only the last hour the umpire calls 15 more overs at all cost. before that they will fk about as usual and probably get only 70 odd overs in.

not on day 5, they bowl them all, weather permitting.
I know to my cost!

I see.
So what's the point of calling the last hour then?

they go well past the scheduled finish on day 5 to finish games

They call the last hour when 15 overs are remaining
Mainly to stop time wasting

The non threatening nature of the wicket is a factor too, the groundsman took shots from Joe Root, he does not want to have another wicketfest and I hope he has gone to the other extreme with batters paradise.

It will be slow and low for first innings imo

don't use 98 overs as an amount for full days play...88-93 is the max they will actually get in...last day too, yes they can keep going but light will be a factor

Those cameramen and photographers are past masters at using filters to trick the viewer, they're even trying to have us believe that someone has turned up to Lord's, the home of cricket, wearing a red suit Shocked

None of the last eight Tests at Lord's have lasted longer than 350 overs. Four of them have lasted less than 270 overs. A day of rain doesn't remove the chance of either side winning this match

Australia captain Tim Paine: "There's been a bit of weather around. A shortened game, I think probably the best way to win it is to take more wickets. Josh Hazlewood comes in for James Pattinson. He has a great record here and James' long-term future is our priority."

England captain Joe Root: "We would probably looked to bowl first as well, but it might be a good one to lose. It looks a pretty good surface. It might be tricky this morning, but we need to get through that and make a big first-innings total."
