I was shocked by the standard last night. Apart from the excellent Taylor behind the stumps and Healy with the bat it was very poor.
Brunt is still referred to as 'fast' when she's anything but, even by womens' standards. Taylor stands up to her 68mph pies. One or two very good outfield catches but Shrubsole dropped 2 including a dolly off her own bowling. She's dreadfully over weight. England conceded 3 lots of overthrows within 3 overs. Basic backing up not done. Incredibly gentle bowling, some brainless batting but because an autographed bat was burned in 1998 apparently it's The Ashes. There is one 4 day game which they call a Test Match. I'm surprised the women arent't mad at being so patronised but I guess they get paid, so.. |

They contributed to the last defeat by not batting out the overs and another dimwitted effort to repeat the dose.
Trying to accelerate seemed like a throwback to old style women's cricket where they didn't seem to have the ability/strength to hit the ball more than about twenty yards. What was it about 60 balls without a boundary and most of the pitiful amount of runs they did get were singles. Will need porky Shrubsole to bowl and field better than she did last time. |
