if a football team refuses to come out for the second half they concede the game, this isnt rocket science

Surely if they're not prepared to play they lose the game - can't imagine anything like this happening in any other 'professional' sport. The match referee and the umps should say 'either play or concede'. Totally feeble.

Yep. I get that they’re upset and if they didn’t tamper fair enough (although guilty people make a big show of being upset too) but play or concede.

"A previous instance of a team refusing to take the field after a ball-change came at The Oval in 2006, when Pakistan did not take the field after tea on day four, after umpire Darrell Hair changed the ball and awarded five penalty runs to England. Pakistan eventually forfeited the Test."

surely could have continued to play making it clear it was under protest and made official complaints through the right channels -
this is just making Sri Lankan cricket an embarassment.

- That would be the common sense approach. Happy

Sri Lanka have been allowed to waste 2hrs play, in return for a 5 run penalty, seems like a fair trade off from their pov

Not really as 1-0 down in the series but the point still stands that you can’t just choose not to play.

You don't think they'd be happy with a draw in this game? I'd take it if i was them

So people criticised Hare for his ultimatum to Pakistan, along with everything else but clearly that made more sense than this.

With the time they’ve just taken out of the game and the run penalty and the morale issue, perhaps. They didn’t have to take the time out though.

Wow! Dinesh Chandimal standing at the boundary was talking on phone. Match referee Javagal Srinath appears to have told him that he is not allowed to do so. A SL team official takes the phone from Chandimal. Its all happening! #WIvSL
