Something has made Saffers drift, maybe an injury, can't be Rabada or the drift would be further.

In all of this it may have been somewhat lost that various nefarious activities leading to reverse swing has led to far more results...will the effect of this be that in some instances draw prices become too short until the market catches up?

Tears now from Smith. Bancroft accepting he panicked once on the ground and again at the press conference. Still waiting to see if this plan was made during the lunch break. That sounded like a lie too.

Plus the ACA have already criticized CA for the punishments being too severe. I think there's good chance they'll be playing again this year. At least Smith will. The tears will help too.

Wow

I thought he was genuine and believed him for his remorse at least.

I have still got plenty of to say about this and there is plenty to be said!

I would firstly like to know if they were his words or a prepared statement.

Smith is a young man. he has done something stupid and for many unforgiveable. It is not unforgiveable but it will be with him all his life. He is a cheat or rather he cheated!

Who guides and controls a young man. What do young men know about life. From an early age talented young sportsmen are molly coddled and get away with plenty and few put them on their airse.

This thing about headbutting the line is getting my goat. The failure of leadership was not by Smith but those given with his charge. The Coach and Cricket Australia.

I have changed my views in that I believe they should be allowed to ply their trade, which, is cricket but not represent their country and none of them should ever be able to lead their country. that is a heavy price.

What they did was awful but allowed.

Smith said he is only now realising what the consequences of his actions are.

I still want to know what really happened. I said at the start if they told the truth there should be some leniency. They lied. I think two of them have shown remorse but they are young men who made a terrible mistake.

The year ban playing Test Cricket and loss of the Captaincy is a clear example to all others who want to headbutt the line but that is not enough. The people who allowed them to do that must now pay the price!

There may be some truth in the above but Smith was " mature " enough to take the plaudits when he was winning. And he's 28 not exactly a kid. Warner's only 31,is he young enough to be let off too ?
By:

When: 29 Mar 18 12:59
I can't stand Warner so no!

What I am saying Salmon is that I genuinely believe he is contrite, maybe becuase he has been caught but now he is thinking about what he did. Before he didn't think he was doing anything wrong. Who else stood up and said this is wrong? who called what Australia did cheating? Not many!

The ball tampering is not really the issue for me. What they did and have been doing for years was terrible and again I say who checked them? Nobody!

I want two more heads out of this!

Ah with regard to the cricket it would appear plenty of rain has not allowed for decent pitch preparation and there might be a green tinge which could make it a lottery with regard to the toss but I might suggest this can be over played as much as the dodgy pitch they prepared for India, which, imho was a pay back for the Bunsens that made SA look like school boys rather than even amateurs

I now feel sympathy for Smithy, he has suffered too much from this now, I do not support a year long ban for him.   Ha almost looks suicidal.   It's a bit sick to revel in that amount of discomfort in someone, not like he is a violent criminal.
By:
Whisperingdeath
When: 29 Mar 18 15:14
I half agree with you Cardinal,

Whislt enjoying the show I feel Smith's pain. He is clearly devasted. He knows what he has done. I accept any genuine act of contrition. As far as I am concerned that is enough for me. I would let him play again immediately although I would state he will never Captain any Australian Team.

I feel nothing but contempt for Boof and even Bancroft at the moment. I want to see what happens with Warner. I think he is a disturbed young man and has got some good in him. I understand he had a troubled upbringing. I am not excusing his behaviour but I will say again I am not sure he knew he was doing anything wrong and nobody told him he was!

Cobblers

You can not be bringing or allowing implements on to the field of play.(12 months)

If you choose to play dirty then accept the consequence(6 months)

If you are babbling like a PRAT on world tv because you have brought a life of piss take and

shame to your family and are so concerned for the young boys and girls, delinquent and troubled

ones in particular, that perhaps large portions of your IPL contract in future years will

benefit those kids and off course SPILL THE BEANZZZZZZZZZZ..................Love

For those saying the ban is harsh, the ban is irrelevant. There's much more at stake for Smith here.

What people always forget is that these guys have a private life. Close friends, some of them together since pre school. parents. relatives. teachers. Your own kids and wife. If this happened to me, I would be ashamed to meet my friends and relatives. Parents will always love you, but there is no greater torture than knowing your parents are hurting inside. These are the things that make you go crazy but don't make the news. IPL contracts, sponsorship deals, temporary bans etc are irrelevant. And in that aspect, yes Smith is hurting and you have to feel for him.

Totally agree det. Smith will only really have known public adulation in the recent past and this is a steep and painful fall. I think he deserves it but I’ve a tiny bit of sympathy. I do think the punishment matters too though, as a lot of the shame is framed by it plus it means a long while without cricket to take his mind off what he’s done.

In the test betting, I’m surprised to see the rest of my grand on SA at 1.63, placed before the bannings, has been sucked up. Think I’ll stick with it for now as this looks comfortably the worst Aussie batting line up I can recall in my cricket following life time, up against a very good attack. If I get stuck with it, that’s fine.

Thought the draw price was a bit over excited at 6.6 then 7.2 (!) so quite nicely placed now and more so if this solid start continues. I did make the mistake of laying back half my SA back at 1.55 though so haven’t got what I might on them.

That’s creamed through the covers. Markram has had a fine series so far.

Am I correct in thinking there is hardly any downside to laying SA at 1.5? With the good start they have drifted from 1.44 to 1.5. At best they are going to be 1.35 with a good day(say 300/3)?

I got some 4.6 so didn’t take full advantage but have got rid of my draw backs at 6.6 and 7.2 from 6.2 down to 4.6 so was quite nicely green on SA and draw but took some more draw on it blipping back up to 4.7 and it’s blipped a little further so will sit around for a bit now.

Surely this game now pans out with a decent to big SA first innings total then them destroying the Aussie first innings with their excellent attack on a pacy wicket with some variable bounce and a bit of turn often enough for 1.5 to be a massive SA price. It’s not as if they couldn’t win scoring 275 or say if both sides got 325 first dig either. Not saying it’s impossible for the Aussie batting to go well but it’s a feeble line up really, with the two openers only just having flown in too.
