I'll be laying SA if they head back down to 1.6......

That is not a bad a call as it first sounded to me. No reason why Aussie if they win the toss cannot go out and bat well. Interesting to see if Starc is fit or will be rested.
Who comes in for Smith and will Warner play? Really he shouldn't. I've no axe to grind against Bancroft save banning him for this match would send a message out to other young players that senior players are not always to be trusted or admired. I think the way Amir Khan was treated was scandalous. He was just a raw young uneducated kid from the village who trusted senior players who were filthy scum. He imho should have got a shorter cricket ban, maybe a year and no jail time but that is a different story. I think SA are a very good Test side with a good bowling attack. You need to be able to take 20 wickets to win a Test Match. They have some doughty tough batsmen who play above their skill level and some wonderful batsmen like ABV, QDK and sometimes Hashim Amla. The new kid Markram is kwality too. FAF is out of form but Test kwality. Number 6 is the only weak link. I am looking forward to the Test. I am going to keep my money in my pocket. I think this will be a traders Test Match and that is not me. I do like a gamble though so might play a small amount and trade it starting with an ante post lay of SA! I would like to see the teams, pitch and toss first though. |

I guess playing on the high veldt there is not much of a chance of a draw with so many gun fast bowlers around. I would love to see a spiteful shoot out. The teams deserve it. Raw agression is pure as far as I am concerned and a chance for those who dish it out to see if they can take it...or more to the point for us to see and enjoy it!

The India match here was nearly called off such were the vipers coming from the pitch.
All eyes on the weather and then the draw price I think. |

I think that was a pay back doctored pitch

I can’t see past SA being rather good value around 1.6 and I’m normally a layer of short prices. Aus will definitely be missing the best batsman in the world (yes, he’s not had a good series), probably their only other really good batsman and could easily also rest a key bowler in Starc plus the coach is under a very black cloud. The former Aussie strength in batting depth is long gone and anyone coming in will be several classes below and not acclimatised either. Worth bearing in mind too that the Aussie batting has frequently collapsed horribly on tour against any kind of useful attack on any kind of helpful surface even with Smith and Warner in it. I could just about be persuaded to lay SA looking to close out if Aus win toss and bat (doubt I’d be brave enough to stand an over or two) and hope for an early wicket or two if they lose toss and bowl. It feels like high train risk to me, plus the market will continue to love SA, so even if things go badly for them initially, you’d probably have to be in for a long haul to make much of a return.

I got me some 1.61 lays.......Lehman will be gone ***New Dawn*** bowling attack is still intact (best in world) Saffers batting lineup not in great shape either Hash gone at the game Faf is he gone at the game too? and question marks about all others really apart from AB
|

By:
I want Maxi out there, Joe Burns, even George Bailey. My Saffer lay will have a lot of legs.

You are some brave boys taking any stand against S.A. in this one
I'm not exaggerating when I say Australia's batting line up for this test will be the worst in 30 years. As Fatslogger has said you will have 2 to 3 substandard Aus batsman being flown over the day before the match starts In light of events this has the smell of capitulation all over it to me. I'm very confident at the first sign of pressure Aussie batting folds. Aus only hope is S.A. batting first on a landmine pitch and posting 150 ish. In saying that I would not feel confident Aus batting last chasing a low total |
|
By:
I've been listening to Aus radio and the normally patriotic jingoistic Aussies have turned like a rabid dog. They want the team to LOSE!! Never before has that been known. The players will just want to get this series over and done with.
Can't see Starc playing either, he looked injured in the last game. They should still bowl well but the batting will definitely suffer and I think 1.6ish is a lump and collect job. |
|
By:
Only bad news can come out in the next few days and I can see SA shortening to 1.5ish
|
|
By:
I bet there is somebody out there scouring every minute of the Ashes looking for more evidence! And the first two tests of this series
|
|
By:
Yeah I have now got out of my 1.61 lay 1 tick to the good.......its gonna be pushed down further than that.
|

By:
You never know the whole team might be sent home and a load of U19s sent over
![]() |
|
By:
coach, Warner, smith and Bancroft certain not to take part but sending em all home would be a strong message
|
|
By:
I think jucel69's point "only bad news can come in the next few days" is a valid one. I note Matt Renshaw is flying in immediately after helping his side secure the Sheffield Shield with a series of good scores...

Whatever bad news there is, is going to come today. SA price can only shorten.
I am confident there is something coming Starc and Hazlewood's way as well. When the shet hits the fan, you need to make changes across the board. Otherwise people start naming names and then it gets really ugly. Multiple people have to be involved in this. When was the last time three top order batsmen devised a plan to reverse the ball and the bowlers didn't know? Smith - 2 year ban Bancy, Warner - 1 year bans Starc, Hazlewood and Lyon to be at least sent home. This is assuming Aus really want to use this moment to change their pathetic cricketing ways. It looks like they might want to make a statement and change for the better. Otherwise, just suspend the players for now, hold an inquiry bla bla bla and get the players ready for the next season. |

Darcy and Maxi can save the day.........
Be interesting to see the bowling attack somewhat nullified. |
|
By:
I think you boys may be right here. Starc will probably not play as a guess. Smith and Warner to miss the game too I think.
How do spinners do on the Veldt? If Lyon can be neutered Aussie could be smashed. It will be hot and thin air! Some good news is that it looks like Warner is going to be " scapegoated " and they are going to do a " Pietersen " on him. There is malcontent in the camp. The bowlers don't want a bar of it. I would be glad to see the back of Warner. I hate to see cricket played the way he does. It disgusts me. if you want a war then go and find one off the cricket pitch. Better still go pick a fight with Sonny Bill Williams! |

Market is moving after the press conference.

Good shout slogger
I took on what you and juce said. Half whack at 1.61! |

I don't see why market should move at all, we knew those 3 were out anyway. It has petered out and is retracing anyway.
|
|
By:
Tru dat but they are replacing half their batting line up. That takes some time to sink in!

Its not retracing , that was a near pull back, I'm 3 ticks to the good anyways.

Complete whitewash - as Dominic Cork says, the bowlers never knew? And if coach doesn't know what his players are doing then he shouldn't be coach anyway. Im afraid CA are coming out of this very poorly too...
|

By:
Renshaw unlucky not be in the Ashes team. Maxwell however won't like it up 'im with the short stuff.
Burns is a class act. Great opportunity for these guys. |
|
By:
I thought Renshaw was ok when he played. Out of form last summer though. Looks a better prospect than Bancroft. I think it will be difficult for any of them to come in and be effective on the Veldt. Could see them with an England like total!

laid it all off at 1.56
Only 6 ticks but I had a substantial wager at 1.62/1.63 hoping for some kind of biblical clear out. Bit of green to take forward to the game. |
|
By:
I got £85 at 1.63 so not exactly a retirement fund in prospect but better than having laid at that price, I suppose.

They are trying desperately to keep Boof out of this, as if he is involved then it's the whole team isn't it??!!

So Smith's 'Leadership Group' consisted of himself, Warner and the newbie.
Whitewash. |
