Federer is the greatest player ever, not sure there is much of an argument. Nadal has drug suspicions hanging over him too

I didn't even mention those! There is a plausible enough argument around Federer having an easy time of it early career in the post Sampras Agassi era but he's won quite a few slams since the advent of Nadal, Djokovic and Murray too and while he's clearly Nadal's bunny on clay, stitching those together doesn't get Nadal to being better than Federer, especially given how terrible he's been at Wimbledon for near a decade.  Federer at least gets through to semis and finals at the French, apart from last year, when apparently missing it was so his record against Nadal didn't get any worse!

I thought you were laying Aus every game.

As I said, not taking any more on but this is a very tight Aus price with the batting to come, surely.

Paine is no good with a expanding run rate required but he would be solid enough in this scenario.

Maybe.  I think he's just generally a bit bad, although it is a very easy RRR now.

It's subjective, but I'd put Nadal in front of Federer.

I'd rather watch Roger, and his list of slams is clearly superior but there are two subtle things which make Rafa better.

Nadal remodelled his game to beat Federer in his pomp on his best surface, something Roger never managed to do. He never modified his game to deal with Nadal's heavy topspin forehand to his backhand and was repeatedly worn down by it. It's worth noting than Djokovic did the same as Nadal and vanquished Nadal's forehand by stepping into it and taking it early and destroyed him in Rome and Madrid in 2011. Put simply, Roger never adapted his game to deal with the match-up problems posed by his competitors.

The second part is about Nadal's mastery of his own intensity. There are few players who are able to raise their game so frequently and so noticeably on the biggest points. Ultimately this is what sport is about. Producing your best at the biggest moments in a match. No one does this better than Nadal.

Interesting DS, as usual and you make fair points.  I think the Nadal superiority over Federer in head to heads is overstated though, partly because Federer is so good at beating the weaker players even on his least favoured surface and has therefore played Nadal on clay loads, where Nadal is very obviously better than Federer and indeed everyone else.  On grass, where Nadal has been dire for ages, he's got nowhere near the master.  Yes, he beat Federer once on grass but career viewed as a whole, he's hardly played him on the surface. A lot depends on how important you make the head to head too - the narrative asks the question of how Federer can possibly be the greatest if he's not been better than everyone in his era but that rather misses the point that to be the greatest you just have to have a better case than everyone else that you are and I'd pretty much say that Federer does. Would be nice for him to buff his record with this slam though.

Not that I believe in this stuff but for God's sake turn off again soon.

Aus really should still win but it's just enough runs that there could be some pressure.
