I think boycott & a few people on here owe woakes an apology, fkin fantastic player when fully fit & his confidence is up, got a great all round game

Not been on since the start of this Test/no laptop, but a very interesting game now in progress. Australia dominated, the first 8 sessions of the Test Match - but not getting England to follow on, was an incredible decision, as they would have bowled in favourable conditions under the lights. England were give a small lifeline and they have taken that well. Ripped the Australians out and have made the right decisions when batting. Stoneman batted well, but out for 36 you need to go big once past 20, Milan struggled big time, but the thing I like about him, is he really did battle as hard as he could. Joe Root, really needs to go on and get 150 for England to win this match and another good decision by England was to bring in a proper night watchmen in Chris Woakes and he could take an awful lot of getting out and of course is a proper bowler/batsmen all rounder. He received a couple of quality balls in his short stay this evening and kept them out. The English public know he's more than a capable batsmen. Mohin and Jonny Bairstow could also give the Aussies problems and the battling Overton as well. However the Aussies are still favourites, but if Smith had got England to follow on, this game would have already been over, a quite an incredible decision.
yep woakes is v handy batsman, he can score & has good defence, luxury to have at 8 (9

the majority of the slagging should be levelled at the english batting imo

I got out of my Australia back even though they will still probably win. Keep some profit and let someone else carry the risk of day 5.
I remember an ODI some years back where Broad and I think Ravi Bopara made a near last-wicket stand to nurdle away at a sizeable total and take us home to victory. They played with discipline and got us there. He certainly used to be capable of sensible play.

broad has dined off that 150 against pakistan (when other things were going on) for far too long

Based on the first test the criticism of Woakes was entirely justified. His figures with bat and ball were very ordinary. He has battled back well and perhaps he just needed a confidence boost. Hopefully, he carries on the improvement.
i don't mind woakes. It's Woakes and Overton, or Woakes and Ball, or Ball and Overton that i mind. in fact, out of the three, I'd pick Woakes everytime.
The issues is our selectors not taking a risk on someone with real pace as the fourth bowler. In England it's fine, but we're f*cked in australia if we don't gut them with the new ball or have swing friendly conditions.

I was at Lord's for Broad's ton. People think the whole day or match was corrupt. It wasn't. It was the odd no ball and that was it. (The no ball was purely to prove that the fixer had influence - noone bet on that.)
It was one of the most competitive day's cricket I've seen. The bowling was excellent and fielding keen. Pakistan had no answer to Broad. He batted magnificently.

Woakes was a joke selection 3 (?) years ago at the Oval. He was a typical English 3 dimensional jack of all trades master of none cricketer.
But then he gained pace and he turned into a serious bowler.

injera...2013...he wasn't ready for selection when picked for that oval test (england have a lot of previous on this)

perth has been pretty flat the last few tests there, the old WACA tests seem to be a thing of the past (soon will be gone altogether)

A good captain can manage them well, three/four over bursts of back breaking effort and then rotate.
Again, it's not the right play in England, but it is in Australia, and while Melbourne or Sydney's weather may help with swing, it's not going to happen at perth, nor was it going to happen at the gabba. It probably wouldn't have helped here were it not for the day night conditions.

The Gabba was a 2 spinner pitch if ever I saw one and we could easily have played 2 if Bayliss had anything about him. (Not Crane, Rashid is out there, somewhere).

Some of us have worked tirelessly on this test match and some of us are gonna fritter it all away on day 5....I can't allow that to be me.
This market has been as stable as any I have seen post stumps which probably means its very accurate at the moment.

Though the draw price is still bonkers so it can't be accurate.
I have to work tomorrow and my alarm goes at 5.30am. I will put the tv on and my head tells me England will have 7 or 8 wickets down, heading for defeat and it will be the same old story. My heart is telling me that we might have lost one wicket and Root will have a hundred+ and we only need another 70 or so to win. If that's the case work can wait. Will I be at work on time?
Im sort of glad jimmy proved me wrong. But he needs to do it throughout the rest of the series aswell. Woakes finally woke up and looked dangerous and his figures backed it up. Still think the Aussies will win this though, an early breakthrough and its pretty much over. As for the waca test I can only see one outcome sadly, they will try to quicken it up just to bring out the absolute best in the 3 quickies, the quicks have looked very good on flat slower pitches and imagine one that actually has pace in it.

I have frittered away about 20% of my return today which is annoyng but manageable.
I was level on the game until this morning, put a cheeky 500 on England after Woakes got out.
All thoughts now 2nd test in New Zealand!...there will be opportunites down there.

Yeh had a flat week, net loss on 3 tests, although I haven't bet on the Indian game.
Can't complain really though as I dodged a bullet in NZ and laying Aus on the 2nd day was just a bad bet. Got that back too & then spunked it this morning

Shameful (again) that Bairstow is left with the tail. 7 is too low, 8 was ridiculous.
He averages 39 in 47 Tests with 3 tons and 17 50s. He'd have more tons if he could consistently bat higher.

bairstow is a front line bat for sure, I'm just not sure how keen the management are to have him batting as high as 4 as could be fielding for a day and a half and then be batting in 2 overs knowing the english batting
How many of the Aussie team would get into the Pomms side Injera lmfao. You lot know nothing about the great game. Another shambolic performance by a dreadful English side. Truly embarrassing and I'm loving every minute of this one sided affair.
