Two changes for England , Wesley and Milan , Rabada back for SA.  This is too close to call for me and the toss is vital.  The draw at 4.1 is too short in my opinion, the long range weather forecast looks ok so the lay of the draw is the play for me . Good Luck.

I've mostly broken the day 5 trading habit but not entirely. I also try to avoid any situation where the game looks to have hardly any legs left before day 5 but don't always manage. Not that I'd back England at 1.09 here but it's probably value and 1.1 almost certainly is. The only thing you might do is lay England / back draw looking for a quick trade off after a couple of overs if the price overreacts but you don't get much chance of recovery if it goes wrong, unlike at other points in a test.

draw way too low at 12. SA way too high at 500. Have had a small punt on SA - I am a dreamer?. With an agressive field, we may see some quick early runs... If SA bat all day, they win.

Don't think SA win if they bat all day, especially with the free scoring de Kock already out but you may be right about the disparity between the prices being wrong. Problem is, neither batsman will look to attack much if at all early on.

Having said I don't, I did try to get £300 more draw at 13 looking for a quick early fall, which would have worked nicely but missed.

Just use this to your advantage. I have often refused to cash out 10-20 min before a break thinking they play out the session and then i get a better price but it fails horribly. Just mould your betting strategy accordingly. I had a decent green when SA were about to get to tea for no loss in 1st innings. Wanted to cash out in the break. Then it all went downhill. From a decent green to a massive red as i kept laying Eng at 1.7, 1.5, 1.3 and 1.13

We should have 4 day tests anyway, 105 overs a day. 11-6pm with heavy fines per over not bowled. Speed the whole thing up.Happy

Another real kicking in this series. As you say, rain made it look a lot closer than the scorecard shows it really was. Even with large slices of two days lost though, England still wrapped them up with a lot of time left.

Report wondersobright July 31, 2017 9:30 PM BST
I like the idea of 4 day tests, 105 overs a day

could do something like
10.30am-1pm morning session
1pm-1.40pm lunch
1.40pm-4.10pm afternoon session
4.10-4.30pm tea
4.30pm-7pm evening session

2.5 hour sessions bowling 35 overs = 14 overs per hour
which is more than manageable even with reviews (which should be as quick as possible)
and as you say injera zero tolerance on poor over rates, I'd go as far as adding runs to the opposition score
Report pxb July 31, 2017 9:35 PM BST
I like 4 day Tests as well, but first you have to get India to play day-nighters as cricket is played in winter there.
Report Whisperingdeath July 31, 2017 9:41 PM BST
Why change something that is working so well. Get people into grounds by offering cheap or free tickets. Rebuild the business in those places. And we should we be paying 80-100 sovs for a ticket in London? sack the executives!
Report detraveller July 31, 2017 11:30 PM BST
We will soon not have any players that have the guts to last 5 days on a cricket field. We probably already have reached that point. Day 5 is more of a reserve day these days.

105 overs a day is impossible. Even with night cricket, that's a lot to ask from a team. And its a tough task to keep the overrates in check.

Draw trading(draw layers in paticular) will get tougher with 4 day cricket. Market already overreacts to rain and with 4 day cricket, I can imagine sub 2 prices pre match :D
Report Injera August 1, 2017 5:21 PM BST
Day 5 could be an actual reserve day though. Let's say we lost a minimum of 30 of overs due to weather on days 1-4, day 5 could then be used.

I think test cricket needs tweaking. It used to be said we couldn't play red ball cricket with floodlights. They do now. T20s are played at a faster pace because the teams get a run penalty if they don't meet a cut off point. It works very well.

In tests, get rid of all unofficial drinks breaks and all conferences between captain, Broad and Jimmy!!
