THey will not start on time. Too much water has fallen I think. But yes the showers are expected to ease later in the day.

the draw is shooting out again, if you can ride these waves you can make some decent cash.

If they start after lunch it will mean that 450 overs are still possible.
Draw should be 4s on that sort of news. |

Green pitch under covers all night against Pakistan who haven't played any meaningful cricket since landing in NZ.

With T20 bettors entering test match markets the volatility is at an all time high due to lack of patience, understanding of the game

The forecast has improved somewhat from what it was earlier this morning and last night. Still I would be a bit wary of the amount that has fallen. On the flip side, there is a very stiff wind which will help with the drying process. Unfortunately I am not in Christchurch and no of no one there that can help with local conditions.

cheers jucel, however the radio is saying "steady rain" and forecast to continue throughout the day.... I think I prefer Andrews synopsis, the radio like to embellish things.
|

By:
The radar doesn't look too bad but it doesn't always pick up drizzle/mizzle.
I'm very wary of backing against drizzle!! |

Many a bank has been destroyed by steady unrelenting drizzle!

comms on radio think play will not happen today

Models showing rain all day. Might be showers and we get some on again off again play. Might be drizzle.
|

By:
got to get the covers off first.... that could take some time. (for the next shower to come through again etc)
|
|
By:
comms waffling on at the moment. Its bleak but they have not made any projections yet about weather
|
|
By:
bryan waddle just saying don't know when play will start. Need to wait for rain/showers to stop and then clean up ground etc. Looking okish at the moment but showers still coming through.

radar giving indication that the worst weather has blown through !!!

By:
radar just saying rain all day according to the commentators at the ground.
|
|
By:
interesting how they interpret these things. I see the metservice radar showing the worst is over but it seems to appear out of nowhere as well from time to time. I think it will be typical Canterbury in a southerly... showers all day but easing.

By:
that looks terrible. raining again.
|
|
By:
they will need 2 hours to get the ground ready once it stops raining. So maybe some play at about 2pm?

Hi tyco,
Haven't seen you for a while! I though NZ were building the basis of a decent side but seem to have gone backwards. They look at least two bowlers and two batters short of being challenging. Don't get me wrong they can hold their own at home but I have been disappointed with their progress. Glad Neesham is back. I wonder how you feel about the side? |
|

I am going to lay the draw here! This will not get much shorter than this.

Hi Whisperingdeath, yeah been away as I only really do tests. (and home onedayers) Yes you are right, I think McCullum retiring has changed the landscape a bit and Boult and Southee's form has dropped off a bit as well damaging the strengh of the team. Still I am happy where they are, Latham is an opener I think we can rely on now and its just one bowler I feel we need along with a spinner that is effective. Santner may be the one, time will tell. Yes at home I think you will see them rebound and R. Taylor may get his form of old back.
Excited to see how they perform in this and other series this summer. |

still raining according to groundstaff. Supersopper going so trying to keep the outfield dryish. Wind is picking up, gale force southerlys and 9 degrees at the moment. patchy rain and takes 2 hours to get ground ready for cricket. problem is going to be the intermittent showers forcing the covers to stay on.
|
|
By:
commentator thinks if they are going to get on it will be about 3:30 or so at the earliest. Reackon covers off then 2 hours to get things going. Or once rain stops, 2 hours. So going to be a long wait today. The good factor is the wind.

2 hours without any rain looks unlikely to me today.

Yeah i agree, rain comes out of nowhere on the NZ rain radars so you have to be very careful with them. Its good to know local conditions and how the climate works in nz. Im sure though if they get started on getting the ground ready, work 1 hours, have a small shower... that does not put it back by another hour. But its going to be a tall task to get some play today. I am hoping for some later in the afternoon.
Bets the question why they are still scheduling test in November in NZ. Seems silly to me. |
