A draw top up on the wicket would have worked nicely. Little bit of turn for Jadeja now, not for Ashwin so far. Have my draw lays in from 3 down to 2. That may be ambitious and an England collapse is always on the cards but even then, I'd expect India to take advantage of the good batting conditions and keep the draw in the market.

If we're relying on Newt Gingrich to keep the US on track then we've come to a parlous state in world affairs.

Market is still in denial here. England batting first one wicket down and India still favourites!

Missed a straight one and you can tell he's really disappointed.
Played for spin when there wasn't any

He looked all at sea that over, for some reason.

Hmm, not sure how Duckett will go. The top up on the draw seems less appealing and I'd just tried to nick a few points by buying at 3.5 and laying at 3.2 too.

Some runs from the top 4 certainly would be a pleasant surprise after Bangladesh, where we had 3 fifties (and none of the much over 50) from them in two tests.  To be fair, Cook and Root have generally been good for a few although even they weren't great against Pakistan in the summer either.

Terrible technically, wasn't it? Right on the back foot, stumps exposed, angled bat, caught at slip.

There has been a bit but nothing at all extravagant.

horrendous for a test top 4. He's a rough diamond though and I prefer him to Ballance. Just needs to work on his technique.

He just strikes me as someone with so much natural talent, but is lacking in his temperament.

should have played Butler! Selectors not making the big calls!

England have surrendered the initiative. The thing is we bat down to 11. Still opportunity to get 300+

With India's batting looking the weaker suit, England could have hammered home the massive advantage of batting first

I can't see how moving Duckers down to 4 was going to work. He's the same raw, technically poor batsman at 4 as he is at 2.

An off spinner's dream to see a leftie play so far inside the line.

He's a 7 at best but as others have said, why no Buttler or Billings? Borthwick too must be spitting out his cornflakes this morning.

Holding for now. I've got a massive draw green without an unbearable red on results so will hope for some runs from England. It's still a good deck and a long batting line up.
