whats the lowest first innings score to win by an innings?

rain is easing and looking clear in the distance, allegedly!

Draw looks a total non runner but can't seem to pluck up the courage to lay it and clear some of the Sri Lanka red
|
|
By:
Gone all red with a decent sized draw lay. Can't see it being a draw even with lots of rain. Could lose rest of today and 5 more sessions and fail to make up any time lost and will still see a result the large majority of the time from here.
|
|
By:
3.50pm That's it. Play has been called off for the day. . We'll start early again tomorrow to try and make up some time. Play will begin at 9.45am tomorrow. Until then, see you.

Green on aus/draw. Big red SL. Correct play to clear some sl red and lay draw but scared of a 2 day monsoon
Think aus win easy. Can't see Sri Lanka making much unless Matthews goes big. |
|
By:
Not a wicket to be 1 down and 80 behind, is it? Even if a good partnership develops, you'd still expect a wicket or several at any moment. Sri Lanka could get 150 or even just 120 ahead and win from there but doubt they'll get enough to make it competitive.

FS, I don't think it's been that bad really. Quite a few bad shots & bad technique from both sides.

There has been a little bit of turn & a bit off the seam. Nothing to warrant these scores.
However, this often happens, when there is just enough in the track, there are a lot of wickets. Just enough to beat the bat or catch the edge. |
|
By:
juce is right. Some of the atsmen have played horrible strokes, including Smith. Some of them have been dismissed on very good deliveries. Pitch isn't a minefield but its still a pitch where a target of 150 will be difficult for the aussies.

9 sessions left and 7 of them needed to be washed out for a draw unless S.L do the unthinkable and hit 400+ and even then you would still need the rain for the draw.
I switched off at lunch on day 1. ![]() |
|
By:
I reckon we'll need a maximum of 100 overs for a result. Could be a lot less of course.
|
|
By:
Pxb, days 4 + 5 to be washed out, result known by tea of day 3.

I might get a flight to Sri Lanka for the next test and stand on Galle Fort for a more accurate weather forecast.
|
|
By:
The whole island looks clear this morning. The draw should fly and SL should come right in
|
|
By:
The weather looks like it will be the same as the last two days. 60 overs until tea and then rain.

Can't rely on forecasts tbh Juce,
I have traded all my draw green on to S.L to at least give me some fighting chance. My own fault as I went a bit balls deep with the weather and now got a 2k hand caught in the cookie jar. Had so many great weather plays last year with my fav being Ind v Saffers (2nd test) when a cyclone was due on day 3 and I kept backing the draw on day 1 after every wicket, Day 2 was rained off and day 3 the cyclone turned up. fecking 5k clean up job. Maybe I just took this one too far. ![]() ![]() Win,lose or draw I will be taking a break after this. Easier said than done but when S.l were batting first and clear sky's were about then I should have traded out (2.4 was still available). Big mistake from me. Also had W.I feck me over at the weekend, amazing what 1 min difference can make even in tests, 700 green to 400 red. Next stop Devon for a few days. |

The rain trade went wrong day 1, because the weather was coming from the SE with a band of rain not far from Kandy. Weather switched to coming from the East and blew the rain away, before it reached Kandy. These things happen.
I expect some rain this pm, and if SL do a decent job of batting (slowly) draw could go quite short. I've backed at 19. |
|
By:
Rain trade went BIG time wrong PXB,
I'm hating the forecasts atm, also got done over on the 3rd Eng test (along with everyone else). It's hurting atm but I've been punting for over 20 years so it's just a little knock back in hindsight. |

Learning the hard way.

To be honest, I have zero trust in weather forecasts after this game. Here it looks like the weather forecaster predicted all that rain just so he could himself lay the draw :/
SL's batting display evaporated any other hope of salvaging something out of the draw back. Another harsh lesson learnt. |
|
By:
The best thing I can say about Lankan forecasts are that the Bangla ones are worse.

The draw play was still the correct play on day 1.
In July, almost every afternoon has rain, so you could say it is a 300 over test match. Draw at 2.3 for a 300 over test match is the right call & I would do it again. You can't legislate for terrible batting by the Lankans on day 1 |
|
By:
I see that Aus streaker from the other day has got 7 days in jail for messing about on the pitch when it was raining.
Bit harsh! |

Its nice and bright at Pallekele at the moment with scheduled start at 9.45. However its the afternoon weather that has been the spoiler. |

Can't trust the SL batting for one ball.
