Not even close of play first day and draw down to 1.76. Gong to stydy the rain charts and think about a decent draw lay. Think about it only!

staying on India, just need to think about covering draw red for now. England will be batted or weathered out of a chance of a win.
The pitch is very uneven and I think this might come to haunt draw backers relying on the rain. No way is this a 5 day draw. |

Very early to call it a train but it is the elephant in my room. Convinced England very unlikely to win from here and happy to let them hang. Think the draw at 1.60 will be good to lay day 1 and 2 weather is not likely to be as bad as first expected. |

How many more dreadful pitches, are we going to see this summer. A goods days Test Cricket on the 1st day, would be around 320 for however many wickets. No life in the pitch, even in the 1st hour, with a new ball. Batsmen can't score runs because the pitch is too slow and all you get, is batsmen plodding along at under 3 an over and the bowlers getting little help whatsoever. Not good for Test Cricket, leave abit of grass on the pitch and lets have quicker wickets, so batsmen can play shots and entertain the crowd. A bowling side, should have some help for them on day 1, session 1. The wicket should then favour batsmen for the 1st 2-3 days, but also reward bowlers who are good. On Days 4 and 5 abit of uneven bounce and some turn for spinners. I know the bowling Anderson and Broad apart for England, is not that good and the Indian bowling is unlikely to be any better.

Still looking at scenarios here. Draw is obviously the favourite but I still think India are long and will come in.
I base this on the weather forecast not being as bad as first feared and we may well get a fullish day tomorrow when most thought we would get none. The pitch is truly awful but India already have some runs on the board. Plenty of big if's but the biggest is IF they go on past 400 or not. IF they do then their price must surely come in and the draw mover out even if only slightly. England would be almost batted out of it as the weather and batting last would make it tough on them. In this scenario England would have to bat well and score in excess of 300 runs, whch, to be fair they should do quite easily. Then it is a case of how much time has elapsed in the game and how bad the weather may be. My main argument against the draw is that the pitch is playing really badly uneven on day 1. I just think the draw price is too short at this stage of the game and that is what effectively I am betting against right now. England could have skittled India if the ball had reversed but it didn't. Tomorrow is likely to be cloudy. If England polish off India early they bat in cloud themselves and become vunerable to defeat. If India bat on their price comes in and as I said the draw goes out even slightly. If I was on the draw I would want to be odds against. I wouldn't be looking to buy the draw at 1.7 so we got an interesting day tomorrow. |

the future due to greed....endless test matches against aus and india with other countries occasionally getting a tour on 'corporate' pitches...why the hell do we need 9 test match grounds...ditch Cardiff and Headingley

Must agree, that Cardiff, should be kept as a Test ground (kod)as cricket is played all over England and Wales and using Cardiff, gives Cricket fans, from the west country and Wales a chance to see Test cricket in that part of the Country

draw all over this, particularly with the forecast for the last couple of days. Even without weather interruptions there's just nothing there for the bowlers. No bounce, no pace, no carry, and the groundsman suggesting there will be nothing for the spinners either. Why this type of pitch was prepared is beyond me tbh. 'Welcome to England - here's a pitch to ease your batsmen into the series.'
Expect an early wicket with the new(ish) ball tomorrow hopefully push the draw price out to a backable price again. |

Dubai / cricketnut, point taken re: Cardiff, venue for the SW/ Wales.
My main point was that having so many venues will mean turgid pitches and the no. on the roster need to be reduced...get rid of Headingly and the Rosebowl if you prefer If not, in 5 years time the public will become bored of paying ridiculous prices to be nannied around at the ground by YTS students to watch largely the same teams on pitches that do not produce good cricket. Grounds will be 50% full I suggest rather than 80%+ as now. And Dubai you're a tetchy little lad aren't you |

I want to get on the draw but not yet. My main concern is that if India do bat well today it may indicate the complete benignness of the pitch that might bring the draw in too far for me and India will not drop enough from current levels to allow me to lay them off from 4.14.
My gamble is that the cloudy conditions indicated for today may encourage a little more swing and advance the match. I think Friday on the whole may not lose too much to the rain so there should be pressure against the draw and on an India win by close. Against that idyll is the prospect of India batting on and on if the pitch is indeed better today and England batting well all day Friday in which case I guess I shall be cooked so again despite the pitch an interesting day ahed. |

well it looks like the weather is going to be ok...thats my plan scuppered,still on the draw here but considering getting out and seeing how the ball swings.
if dhoni fancies it then it could be curtains for england by tea.if anderson gets it going then its game on. hmmm...gotta love cricket |

I still think draw is most likely result but 1.7 on day 1 was too low so I layed it. The battle between the Draw and India is intriguing me.
I am unsure whether to clear red on England at these prices as it will increase my red on the draw or just ignore it. Will leave it be for now and make a decision if Anderson gets his boomerang back. |
