cricketnut2 09 Jul 14 12:52  This is an awful Test Match pitch, 1st morning and there has hardly been any movement, whatsoever. No pace either, why do English groundsmen, always prepare pitches that favour the away side. In England we need a bit of grass left on the pitch, so there is some seam movement, but all they do is make sure there is 5 days play, so people come in and spend money, nothing wrong in that, but no one will come in on Sunday, if there are interruptions in the next 3 days, as the game will be a dead days play.it's apparently all about the drainage. loads of grounds have been relaid to improve drainage, the problem being all the moisture gets sucked out of them so they lose all their pace and bounce.

I coul;d see that but they could invest in a hose pipe, grass would grow

i don't think it would help with bounce and pace though. it has to be able to retain the moisture to make the surface more elastic

a wonderful backhanded and barbed compliment from Blowers.

I was listening to the sussex v northants game the other day when 1 of the comms came up with a stat about the % of runs that are scored in the 3rd man area in first class cricket in england

I've forgotten the exact % that they said but it was around 1/3 Shocked and yet still no fielder there Mischief

Yes wondersobright,

I rememeber in my youth some chap thought a batsman had a weakness short and wide around off stump so he kept bowling there while the batman helped himself..  When he got the wicket caught behind he yelled with delight that he knew he'd get him like that.  One of our senior players, a Yorkshireman congratulated him on the fact and that he got his man in the proscribed manner and the fact that the batsman got nearly 100 should not diminish his exceptional cunning!

don't you know old chap, any of those fellows from British India don't like the short stuff.

our bowlers are better than that and i don't think it's wise in such a condensed series: unless there's a real genuine weakness, say perhaps raina, it should always be a plan b, or as holding says, a surprise ball.

I am 4.14 India, legs wide apart waiting for a little tickle.  Some time hopefully soon folks will realise India have runs on the board and are in the box seat!  Then I could get out nicely and close my legs before any liberties are taken with my financial health!

I this "last call" for the Draw Train?

By:

When: 09 Jul 14 17:08
I have no idea where this game is heading pj.  Been tempted by the draw but always think either side could get skittled in a session with reverse so undecided to back draw just yet as I think tomorrow will be cloudy and no rain.  Ball may swing and odds will change sharpish.  I do think England are short though with India at 213-4
