a more self aware man would be downplaying that knock on a featherbed against a second rate attack.

prior seems to think everything is ok now. "I'm back".

no you're not.

a lovely little tweet which perhaps sums it up

"Hard not to feel for the lads who had to finish the series in Australia so that Root and Prior could come back against 75mph half-volleys."

It's a little harsh against Root who i think had a bit of a baptism of fire. Not knowing where to put him in the order can't have helped and dropping him wasn't a terrible idea

I like Root, and I think he's a bit unsure of himself, despite his talent, and he'll develop into a very good test batsmen who'll be a key part of the english side for the next decade. I also think he came in a tricky situation against the lankans.  The first sixty or seventy runs of his innings being worth 3 times as much as the softer 130/140 he scored afterwards.

Prior on the other hand had been woeful for two back to back series and to claim that he's back, is delusional.

if SL avoid  follow on (which they will most likely) then a draw is looking the probable result...IMO

possible light rain showers next three days around lunchtime. Doubt will effect match but it is british weather, draw almost certain if SL bat through 400 plus and thats very likely

I am in Holland Park at the moment.  It is sunny / overcast no chance of rain!

Cloud is high.

I think there is still a long way to go in this game.  Interesting to see the draw go so low overnightLaugh, having said that greed is good so I haven't taken the green as yet!  There is a nagging feeling in me that at any time England could produce the old reverse swing trick so for me the result is nowhere near a foregone conclusion.  From my point of view I'd like to see SL score another 350 today and that will enforce England have to bat on to make the game safe unless the pitch shows sign of wear and tear.

I think the draw is the most likely result but I don't rule out anything else.  I took a position on SL at favourable odds just in case and am only exposed to England, which, I have no intention of covering just yet.  Hopefully the price for that will present itself at the end of the day following a couple of big hundreds.

draw from 1.5 ACOP to 1.65 this morning, I don't think I'll be opposing it 'till things start to happen and wickets start to fall, the chance of a follow on been imposed are minimal.

you would have thought that this morning England would have tried to make the batsmen play a bit more early on.
