So the scoring has been pretty quick compared to standard

New word of the day 'Doyen'- senior member of a group

Would I be right in saying 'Michael Clarke and Graeme Smith are the doyen's of their teams?'

Should be an entertaining 1st session from Australia as they seek quick runs.

Not really.

Doyen is usually an older person. I wouldn't use it to describe a current sportsman.

You might describe someone like Michael Caine as a doyen of comedy drama.

As a native english speaker who has read many thousands of books, but who has worked a lot with non-native english speakers, I appreciate things that are just obvious to me, aren't to those learning the language.

But, I admire your perseverance.

Gotta think SA will put up a fight, at least for a little while. I'm hoping to get evens on Aus at some stage, maybe 0-50, 1-100 or something.

Its all a bit iffy really...

I think Saffer will seek to win...............i just want the draw to feck off.

Why sent their slowest scoring batsmen in when they are looking to set a total

Agree yes, but it is in support of his selection.

Cant really give the wrong message.

Expect this will be till after lunch when we see Watto......

By:

Im sure Doolan wouldnt have been put out if he had been told they need quick runs so Smith/Watson are going in now

From cricinfo site:

MrGarreth: "I know this might sound convoluted but I think Clarke deliberately told Doolan to tell Warner to slow down. I think he wants to dangle a carrot of say 420 to tempt SA but he also doesn't want to give them too many sessions where they can just play at their own pace to get there. He wants Smith to make the tough decision of whether or not he goes out in a blaze of glory"

hmm need a degree in Psychiatry to bet on cricket these days. Grin

Es...i was thinking that to a degree, as i said i think Saffer may have a go.

Bear...yes true what you say...

But no one was refering to quick runs.

He scored 5 from 39 deliveries.......

Even Mikey now says Doolan is batting for himself and yes the instruction was to play himself in..

We will see soon enough anyway...........

Seems to me Oz don't really want to draw and plan on setting a reachable target...laying SA seems dangerous

Very shrewd from McGrath, thought that. Set them 450 in 135 overs

Interesting thought that this go slow tactic is all to ensure they are able to set a target that might get SAF interested

Clearly right just look at Warner padding up
