england won't be exactly gutted if there's a bit of rain around here. be quite happy to go to adelaide 0-0 what with their terrible record in first tests overseas

could be good to lay england for the series with a view to betting them back after the first test or at some point during the first test
and then green out well that's the theory! and my big concern for the series is not just prior's injury but whether or not he regains form with the bat, come on Matty!! |

gotta put that gabba record in context though. sure the extra bounce is a factor in catching the visitors cold but as nearly always the first test of the aussie summer apart from england the visitors are usually second rate like west indies or new zealand. not to mention they hardly lost any home tests between about 1994 and 2006

looked at the stats on the runs, some poor first innings scores but a few big second innings runs. someone laying eng 350 runs at 1.83ish. Looks a little big to me. Was expecting england evens line to be around 400 ish.

Yes, stats are massive and the Aussies, will come very hard at England, especially in the 1st Test as they will want to put their summer defeat behind them. I think this one, will be a very close series

lets see them walk the walk! to see Aus ditch the left handers because they are so afraid of Swann even on their own grounds gives me confidence. Should be a more even contest but I still expect England to come through strong. They are geared up to playing test cricket and to winning. The stats are important but in context. |

You can find stats to back up any theory. My favourite stats are Aus last 9 tests, won 0, lost 7 drawn 2, Eng last 10 is won 5, drawn 5.

Both teams will not be happy with a draw here asparagus. Only one result will satisfy the home team and that is a win. The ashes won't be reclaimed with a drawn series and given Australia's record in Brisbane it is very important to start with a win should the weather allow a result.

Got to agree with that rhino - Australia's best hopes for a win are Brisbane and Perth. Fail to win

No, I think that the winner of the toss will assess the conditions and make the best call to give them the biggest advantage in the game.

Don't count on it BJT. Last time in Australia Ponting chose to bat in bowler friendly conditions at Melbourne
and Clarke repeated the error in Sydney, both times cost Australia dear. |

Correction - Strauss put them in at Melbourne - If Ponting had won the toss he would have batted tho.
Never recovered from putting England in at Edgbaston 2005 - his cricket brain was shot to pieces after that. |

Possibly a little arrogance left over thinking they were good enough to overcome anything. Get through the worst of it to get the best of it and it bit them.
I don't think they are in a position to think so highly now, and can't imagine them not taking the advantage. England we know for sure will play the safest, slowest, option possible. Either way, that is only relevent if making a prediction now. I am big enough to make a more informed opinion on the day as to if I agree or not. |
