england won't be exactly gutted if there's a bit of rain around here. be quite happy to go to adelaide 0-0 what with their terrible record in first tests overseas
the bangles aside incredibly haven't won one since port elizabeth 2004. a shocking record for a consistently winning side |
By:
could be good to lay england for the series with a view to betting them back after the first test or at some point during the first test
and then green out well that's the theory! and my big concern for the series is not just prior's injury but whether or not he regains form with the bat, come on Matty!! |
By:
Trying so hard to get excited. But it just seems like here we go again
As for the draw Very few draws now. Most tests played like one days South Africa for me |
By:
Australia almost never lose at the Gabba.
Just look at the record books - last defeat? - I can't remember one. |
By:
Very few draws now.
>> I agree |
By:
gotta put that gabba record in context though. sure the extra bounce is a factor in catching the visitors cold but as nearly always the first test of the aussie summer apart from england the visitors are usually second rate like west indies or new zealand. not to mention they hardly lost any home tests between about 1994 and 2006
By:
lasty defeat 1988 against the west indies btw
By:
looked at the stats on the runs, some poor first innings scores but a few big second innings runs. someone laying eng 350 runs at 1.83ish. Looks a little big to me. Was expecting england evens line to be around 400 ish.
whats everyone else thinking? |

England last won at Brisbane in 86 on Gatting's tour. Botham got a hundred, Dilley took 5 wickets and Aus followed on.
By:
something like 20 oz wins and 5 draws since the last loss
By:
stats are massive imo
and as soon as I switch on the TV and its the Gabba everything feels different. England's best chance to win is always Adelaide I feel |
By:
50 hours to go to the battle of brisbane, bring it on. I am fed up to the back teeth of the phoney war.
By:
Yes, stats are massive and the Aussies, will come very hard at England, especially in the 1st Test as they will want to put their summer defeat behind them. I think this one, will be a very close series
By:
yeah, phoney baloney!
lets see them walk the walk! to see Aus ditch the left handers because they are so afraid of Swann even on their own grounds gives me confidence. Should be a more even contest but I still expect England to come through strong. They are geared up to playing test cricket and to winning. The stats are important but in context. |
By:
It seriously doesn't look great http://www.meteorology.com.au/local-forecast/qld/brisbane
By:
You can find stats to back up any theory. My favourite stats are Aus last 9 tests, won 0, lost 7 drawn 2, Eng last 10 is won 5, drawn 5.
By:
how long to go?
I mean what time does play start? |
By:
Midnight tomorrow.
By:
Another stat: England's last 10 opening matches of away test series:
W1 (Bangladesh) D3 L6 Agree both teams would be happy with a draw here. |
By:
I think Australia have to win in Brisbane to stand a chance in the series. They need to be in front
before the last two tests,as Melbourne and Sydney should suit England. |
By:
win toss , always bat and don't lose . really will be the case in each of these tests , just like in england
By:
what is the latest weather report please
By:
Both teams will not be happy with a draw here asparagus. Only one result will satisfy the home team and that is a win. The ashes won't be reclaimed with a drawn series and given Australia's record in Brisbane it is very important to start with a win should the weather allow a result.
By:
Got to agree with that rhino - Australia's best hopes for a win are Brisbane and Perth. Fail to win
at least one of those and they can kiss goodbye to the series. |
By:
what a horrible atmosphere there is at wembley, can hear individuals shout. pathetic
By:
wrong england |
By:
England bowling line up for first Test?
Broad Anderson Swann Tremlett?? Finn was smashed all over in the warm up game and I've never thought he was test material. Surely Bresnan would play if fit but I think he isn't any views |
By:
I won plenty last series stephy, thanks for your concern..
By:
Bit harsh judorick - took 8 for 191 at the final warm up. Youngest Englishman to take 50 test wickets.
By:
Whats your prediction for the series BJT ?
By:
If you told me who would be batting first in each game, I would give you a prediction....
By:
Last time Englands three wins all came batting second - do you think that's the way to go ?
By:
No, I think that the winner of the toss will assess the conditions and make the best call to give them the biggest advantage in the game.
By:
Don't count on it BJT. Last time in Australia Ponting chose to bat in bowler friendly conditions at Melbourne
and Clarke repeated the error in Sydney, both times cost Australia dear. |
By:
Correction - Strauss put them in at Melbourne - If Ponting had won the toss he would have batted tho.
Never recovered from putting England in at Edgbaston 2005 - his cricket brain was shot to pieces after that. |
By:
Possibly a little arrogance left over thinking they were good enough to overcome anything. Get through the worst of it to get the best of it and it bit them.
I don't think they are in a position to think so highly now, and can't imagine them not taking the advantage. England we know for sure will play the safest, slowest, option possible. Either way, that is only relevent if making a prediction now. I am big enough to make a more informed opinion on the day as to if I agree or not. |
