I live next to the oval and its rained all month and hasnt stopped raining today. How many overs have to be bowled in a day for us not to get a refund?

Why are they a better batting and bowling side than the #1 side in the World @ home?

Neither side will fancy batting tomorrow in the cricket we get.

Could be carnage. Swing and bounce. Good luck if it seams as wellLaugh

Ps. Friday will be 80 overs+ I would think.

It's not my opinion at all, its the opinion of the icc who have a saffer ranked as the worlds best bowler and have concluded that 4 of the top 10 batsmen (3 in the top 6) are also natives of south africa...if you disagree you can always take it up with the icc

p.s  while your on the phone to them maybe you can ask why a team that - so far this year- has lost more test matches than they've won are some how ranked no1 in the world...i'll be interested in hearing their answer Wink

england are no1 cos we hammered the previous no1s 4-0 last year. Saffers could only draw 1-1 with them. Cry

we also hammered the current no2s 3-1 away with 3 x innings wins... again saffers could only draw 1-1 Cry

If Saffers wanna be No1s they should try actually winning some series instead of drawing.

HTH.

P.S.  Add the bowling rankings points of saffers top 4 bowlers and our top 4 and we beat them easily.

won 3 and lost 3 this year but only about 3 other losses and england have won virtually every other series in the 3 years included in the current rankings

no doubt south africa have some top class players  but they also have more weak players in the side. bopara the only player with some question marks about him about this level whereas england will fancy their chances against petersen, rudolph, duminy and tahir and AB taking the gloves must affect his batting

no doubt both sides have they're strengths/weaknesses and i do feel the draw is the most likely result given how closely matched the teams are but from a punting point of view if we make the assumption that the game will produce a result..in terms of value..id much rather be on the saffers @4+ than england @2.6

although if you are backing south africa you always have to keep in mind that like india and pakistan they can be a bunch of lazy bazzers Grin

saffers are never lazy Confused
By:

yes..lazy in terms of settling for a draw rather than going for the win when the opportunity exists

not lazy. more negative and selfish. Also lacking imagination

Think the draw is far too short. Partly weather concerns (although latest forecast suggest much less to worry about), and partly the idea that two well matched sides are likely to end up as a draw. Not sure that works in cricket though, we've got two good bowling attacks, probably most of 5 days play and I suspect that there will be some moisture in the pitch after all the rain we've had. I'd have the draw as the outsider, with England a bit shorter than SA. Can see it being a close game, but finished well within the five days.

Raining again near the oval its rained every day of this month here. Sunday is your best chance of a full days play and thats when im planning on going. This is now the worst summer of weather for the last century. All it does is rain here is hoping we get a good test match

6-4 looks value to me yet again it has rained all day here

If there were to be very little or no rain between now and 11am tomorrow, what are the chances of a prompt start? I'm meeting a few mates at the Oval at 10.40am, but if there's a delayed start we're meeting elsewhere and getting a decent breakfast. No point paying £4.50 a pint and getting started on my pork pies and Chinese chicken wings when we can sit in a decent alehouse and have a nice breakfast.

play should start on time thurs and the draw will go out to 2.9=8 ish, then maybe an early wicket back to 2.6 ish and then rain will come around lunchtime and take out most of the afternoon session.  So I have no idea what to do?

draw going no higher than 2.7 before the off imo. market will still respect two strong batting line ups on a good pitch. Saffers effectively playing 7 bats here and AB might drop a few/concede some byes so could be a high scoring game.

Remember how you thought it was gonna piss down everyday in Galle not so long ago...

Huge difference between Galle and London in terms of weather forecasting.  Your comments sadly let you down.

Lix's comments never let him down.  Best on here re test match cricket by a country mile (and there are others who know their g onions).  Good luck to anyone who believes these two sides will produce a draw: there are very few draws in tests in England; and the weather looks pretty good to me; so I'll take you on large.

Got out of my south africa lay. Not a position to take for me at the moment, and weather seems to be influencing prices. Will see you all tomorrow with a sore head more than likely. Really cant see past england imo but we will see what tomorrow brings! Might make a draw lay if it gets shorter and im awake for the start!

I am based in London - current weather is clear blue skies - you have to love English weather :) Have laid the draw in addition to backing south africa as my opening positions

Not sure what forecasts people have here but everything I can find online including the BBC (which use the met office) suggest Thursday will be pretty well a washout, Friday drizzle/rain most of the day and Saturday drizzle for part of the day.  Rest of the time will be fine with no interruptions.  Given the pitch is pretty flat and with the sun out will be even better for batting the drift on the draw makes no sense.

Blue skies here Nige. Did warn you the Beeb were full of sh1t Silly

BBC London weather just now still reckons showers around 11am but nothing on the radar as yet. seems unlikely we'll lose much play today if any. Not desperate to lay the draw big just yet tho. Think it'll go sub 2.2 pretty quick if the pitch looks flat.

If the pitch is so dry is this a win toss and bat? I would have thought both teams would of preferred to bowl but with the forecast looking better eng particular may choose to bat.

i think england could be batting either way here

get the feeling they think that spin will win the day and batting last will be hardest

Saffers probably think rolling England on the first morning is their best chance?

I tend to agree can see England batting either way but would love to see Jimmy have an early go against Smith, set the tone for the series.
