Now the England game is won, my attention turns to what should be a fascinating match full of great trading opportunities. Whilst Australia start as firm favourites, both bowling attacks should be capable of taking quick wickets. Potential showers are forecast so seems there will be rain intervals although I'm not convinced there'll be too much play lost to rain. Pitch reports aren't too descriptive but suggest this will be a result wicket.

I want to back Australia but the starting price of 1.7 isn't attractive as I think the Windies could be competitive (if only for parts of the match). I'm expecting the Australian price to reach at least 2.5 at some point over the first 3 days so I'll wait for that moment - if it comes.

What do people think? Any thoughts about the pitch?

if oz bat 1st i dont think you will ever see that 2.5. i like you think they are short, but the market will be pro ozz for 5 days...

Agree market will be pro Aus. Even if Aus bat first, I'm not convinced they'll be off to a flying start. Warner is hit and miss; Cowan and Watson are not bankers. Ok, 2.5 may be a bit steep but I'll see how the match progresses and definitely look for something north of 2s.

given the way both teams play laying the draw looks "safe" albeit maybe not yet as it's moved out from 3.5 to 4.4

I agree that laying the draw should be "safe." I'd want the chance to lay at 3s (3.5 max) however....

Small lay - only cos I think it will go higher but, ultimately, I'll be looking to back Australia.

looks flat, looking forward to some good old huffing and puffing from this aussie attack away from home.

Really fancy the WI this series, although I think aussies will have their best chance here in Barbados.

flat flat flat, maybe too dry and crumble later, but no real way of knowing unless you have access to the strip.

Can not believe they didnt play Pattinson. Siddle,Harris and Hilfenhaus all too similar not too mention Lyon has to be a mate of Clarke's.
But 2 quick wickets and they will be well on top.

I thought Colombo was gripping game from start to finish. Fantasic viewing.
I reckon Aussies is the bet here. Windies out for anything less than 325 and they will be struggling. Aussies batting line-up should love these conditions.

Aussie's could well be in trouble if WI post 450+ here, big if of course. But pretty convinced this pitch will spin and go up and down later in the game.

Will there be a result here? Surely if WI bat through today then, it could be very likely there will be a draw...
By:

When: 08 Apr 12 15:04
it will be likely yes, but this ausssie batting line up isn't as good as it was and the windies attack is certainly the best it's been for a while. Market not giving them any respect right now

WI looks comfortable. draw to trade very short if still batting @ tea

dougy. Have to say I agree with you re: aussie batting. I reckon draw is most likely, but WI - as you say - do have the tools to be able to win this. The one-day games were a clue as to how good they might be in the tests (although batting does require more concentration, granted!)

Anyway, I've laid Aus for these reasons. 1.66 was a joke, but laying 3s now is still value considering that we've had a day already and Aus don't look like getting WI all out any time soon...

The pitch has already shown the odd sign it will do a bit later on. Must admit the lack of respect shown to the windies by the market is frustrating having backed them at the start!

Agree Windies have better balance in their attack. 2 genuine quicks to get more from this dull surface.

But their batsmen don't have the confidence to increase the tempo. Too much time being taken out of the game for my liking.

agreed inj, fear of collapse stunting them here, will be luck to make 500 by the end of day 2 at this rate

It's understandable why they fear a collapse!

I'm partly book talking and partly aware of KP's incredible innings in Colombo in terms of how much time it bought us later on.

Really looking forward to seeing Deonarine and Bishoo bowling here.

windies 291/5 in a pretty decent position, still a decent chance of getting 400, and anything over 350 isn't a bad score. 112/2 in that session makes it about even imo.
