Modern Pentathlon

that horse that just had a few poles and a refusal, darcland is to be ridden by mosieev in the final rotation, he would be one of the favs for gold so interesting to see what he does with it after seeing that

Oh God that was awful!

Thankfully horse and rider ok.

He's going to remount the horse!

beijing revisited

Yes.

I don't understand how a horse can rear up and come crashing over ont its back and then is allowed to continue.

In horse trials if a horse falls it has to retire.

That's really shaken me up.

wonderboy has had enough

Riding not so tidy now. I spoke too soon

Horses probably getting a bit fed up.

the standard of rider varies a fair bit too

Yes. Sam's doing a nice job.

Another good rider.

Clear rounds coming thick and fast.

Russian guy was not giving enough with his hands. That horse was very genuine to jump round like that.

A horse can't jump if you keep too tight a hold on it.

brit is going to start 7th, 14 secs behind the medals in the final event, 25 secs off the leader

Thanks elise.

I don't understand this event, just watch it when it's the showjumping.

Be back tomorrow for the women.

The 3-lap race with the Shooting (run with a Gladiators style Handicap system) is very exciting.
I'd urge those who don't know much about the sport to watch it on Sky 459

they delayed the start until 7pm

What are the odds on one of the commentators saying 'It's all gone wrong for Zhongrong?'

Gladiators style race and fantastic watching the frustration during the laser shooting,
as piles of people go past you as you struggle to hit the targets

Sounds a bit like you taking part in a Pop Quiz, Poppy

Minus the struggling to hit the targets...

This is f**king pathetic. Like a school sports day.

Basically you are uselessly average at everything, just a little less useless than everyone else

WALOFS the Olympics have become

I must say, I did imagine this event being rather more dashing and glamorous..

like f**king Gladiators.....

CONTESTANTS READY!!!!

GLADIATORS READY!!!!

3,2,.......

I watched the end of this, I really enjoyed it.

Must concentrate on MO now.

After the swimming GB's Samantha Murray is in 3rd place and Mhairi Spence is 9th.

Mhairi won Gold and Samantha won Bronze at the World Championships in May.

Looking forward to the showjumping round coming up shortly.

Hoping for another medal here

This was supposed to be on the red button coverage at 2.30.

It now says no coverage today

It should be on BBC1 at 4.00. I don't think it will be live and we probably won't see so much of it.

is on the website though

Thanks rick! x

It's just started, they're trotting up all the horses to be used.

This is brilliant! So Happy!!!!!!!!!!!

Completely different horses to those used yesterday.

Beautiful aerial shots of London.

Everyone's going to want to visit us after this.

keep us posted, we are watching boxing mostly, and basketball

scores I mean, and gb places

ta

Will do

Lower placed athletes going first so won't be much to report for a while.

I've just found this http://www.london2012.com/modern-pentathlon/event/women/index.html?v=20120812-151357044

Scores posted as it happens.

This has become my fave Olympic event.

I'm going to start training for Rio.

Crumbs rider unseated! She's ok.

Poor girl she'll be off again in a minute.

That was a shame. She got round eventually. She was a decent rider.

This is harder than people think.

The commentators are being very critical of the american girl. Can't believe their comments. That horse looked difficult, she was very skilled. A lot of them would have come off that.

Our first girl won't be going till about 4.30.

The horse she'll be riding has already been round...looked a bit of a nutter but she should be ok.

Mexican girl off. That could have nasty but she's alright.

Aaw she remounted jumped the wrong course then ran out of time and was eliminated.

That would be me

Hungarian girl on the floor now. I really feel for these girls.

She's back on and has wrongly rejumped the fence she fell off that and has been eliminated.

fell off at *

Great, the horse Samantha Murray will ride has just jumped round nicely. Looks a nice horse.

Happy with the horses our girls have got.

good stuff, two clears would be nice

No one has jumped a clear round yet.

Yes, Rick.

Our girls are both very good riders so I'm hopeful.

Especially from Samantha who's horse looks to be very sensible.

What a totally farce sport this is. Complete Lottery

the fencing is not a lottery, the swimming is not a lottery, the running and shooting is not a lottery

and the idea (originally) was to test the riders ability to jump on any horse and escape on it

far from a farce

It does seem rather harsh if you get landed with a horse whose confidence has been shattered by the previous occupant

certainly less of a lottery than the BMX final for instance

So, you can be s*** hot at fencing, swimming, running and shooting. Then get horse who's confidence has been shot to pieces and refuses to jump, so you lose out on a medal. nice.

Agree with that. That should be best of 5 runs

First clear round from Iryna Khokhlova from Ukraine.

She lost a stirrup before the last . Brilliant ride.

She's now in the lead.

Mhairi Spence up next after this girl.

She rides Coronado's Son. He's very keen. She will do well to settle him.

I'm hopeful of a good round from them.

As I said earlier the horse is a nutter.

She rode him really well but lots of penalty points - 104.

Thinking about it she might have been best to let him run on a bit, as the first rider did on him, rather than fight him.

Says me, the showjumping expert

We're into the top 5 now.

I'll put this on again in case anyone wants to check out the scoreboard

http://www.london2012.com/modern-pentathlon/event/women/index.html?v=20120812-164000550

Here's Samantha Murray.

2 fences down with time faults too.

Still in third position but it will be very tight now.

Great round, she rode well.

Think Samantha is now in 4th.

3000 meters with shooting to come

favourite looks short enough imo

saying she wont be caught on the bbc

looking good for silver apparently

come on girlie

Samantha Murray in 4th place and Mhairi Spence in 14th going into the combined running and shooting.

That goes off at 6.00 pm (I think)

I'm hopeful of a Bronze for Samantha.

how does the shooting score Mak ?

I've no idea casemoney, sorry.

I'm sure someone else will know.

Favourite (current leader) had a lot better PB, and her average is around 30 seconds superior to most of them trailing her. This is her best event, normally trails going into it. Anything over 1.5 I've taken, just like the mens yesterday the market didn't really know what to do.

She is also pretty hot imo

you have five targets to hit and you have to hit them all... you re set the gun for a single shot and keep shooting til you hit them all, then you can carry on running

3 sets of 5 hits plus 3 runs of 1km

Short run to first shooting range, you have to shoot all 5 targets - you have 90 seconds to do so (in reality, it takes 20-40 seconds to get your 5 targets). They shoot with laser pistols which need re-cocking/loading after each shot. Then run 1km and do another shoot, then run another 1km and do another shoot, then run another km to the end of the race.

Its certainly an advantage to be a good shooter, the top 10 in the world will be good runners and shooters.

thanks lads ,looks intersting

Will be back later for the final event.

Really enjoyed the showjumping....thanks Rick

what we going do all over today , I have realy enjoyed all sports ,the dressage was brilliant the other day  ,not something I would normally watch

The winner's a bit of a sort

SILVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That was brilliant!

Well done Samantha Murray.

That was brilliant. Very well done the top top three.  And well done to Jacob_TA too - that was a confident but flawless call you made there.

Is that it then?

I'm looking for something else to watch. Was that the last event?

Oh my God I feel like a junkie looking for a fix!

Nothing else in my Radio Times.

it's all available to watch on the website on catch up

Thanks Rick. I wanted more live events.

I'm feeling totally bereft

Seriously feeling really sad right now.

Can't they carry on for another week

Ooh, medal ceremony.

The last one

it's all over apart from the knees up and singalong

Yes. It is sad. Very last anthem of all...

Yes, no more Olympic medal ceremonies for 4 years

Rick, I'm getting slightly worried about the knees up and singalong

If there's going to be a knees-up, I hope that boxer from last night's going to be there.  Now he had some moves...
