I can't see Porridge surviving Lukewarm's character either. The big laugh his letter to "My darling Trevor" got will see to that.

I'm sure it was very different when it first started (Netflix), I can't remember what year it was, but it all changed about 4 or 5 years ago.
There are still a lot of good older productions (TV and movies) on there, but you can bet they're getting scrutinised now, more will be binned, scenes will be cut, whole episodes vaporised.

Only Fools was one of the early casualties I think. 2 or 3 years ago, they cut scenes out of at least one episode.

OFAH got butchered on a new DVD box release a few years ago https://www.zavvi.com/dvd/only-fools-and-horses-complete-series-and-specials/8564878.html

The leopard print version box set

The newer box version even more so, not worth bothering with either of them

Porridge could be in trouble. I'm thinking of McLaren.

My favourite episode is The Hustler and the only video I could find on YT was a sped up version and they cut the bit when they came out the coal bunker and McKay says 'Welcome to the Black and White Minstrel Show'.

Lets see how PC they are when hardly anyone is paying the license fee plus the woke shoite they are pushing left right and centre starts to hit the viewing fugures and the advertisers start to turn off the revenue stream. If anyone has seen any part of that garbage from the US Batwaaaman, they'll know what I'm talking about.

Removing these things from Netflix should see socially distanced queues outside hmv next week as folk but dvds using contactless cards.

If there's any hmvs left after cut backs and riots...

The difference between The comedies of old like Fawlty towers, Rising Damp, Little Britain, In sickness and in Health, etc etc,
and the newer PC left wing alternative comedies, is simple, They were very funny with massive viewing figures and todays are Not funny.

For the last fecking time:
1) It’s not because of the war
2) It’s about repeated use of the N word
3) BBC edited the offending scene in 2013
4) Cleese fully approved of it
5) Netflix & UKTV were airing unedited version
6) Edited version will likely be used in future

From twitter, probably won't help, but they want to complain,

The thing about these shows, fawlty towers, till death us do part & even love thy neighbour was that the racist/bigot always came off the loser second best.cant these people see that they shouldn’t take them at face value.we re laughing at the bigot not with them.

Some people didn't realise that on this forum last week

Amazing innit,

It still causes the racists words to be used against people
as catch phrases, so ridicule of racists somewhat failed as
they simply were not bright enough to get the ridicule.

Doesn't negate the intent of the sitcoms though.

If anyone can watch Love Thy Neighbour and want to be humiliated the way Jack Smethurst's character was each week, then they're beyond help anyway. Ditto anyone who watches Major Gowen in Fawlty Towers and decides that that is how they themselves would like to be perceived.

What about Rudolph Walker calling Eddie, '' White Honky'' every time he saw him.?
Is that offensive to white people.?
i certainly wasn't offended.

The real genius of Love Thy Neighbour was that Jack Smethurst's thick bigot was a diehard Labour trade union activist, while Rudolph Walker's black character was a Conservative voter who wanted to get on in life.

I didn't make my point well, dambuster. None of those old sitcoms promoted bigotry or racist insults, whoever they were coming from. Randolph Walker's character got his come-uppance from his wife just as much as Jack Smethurst's character did. The long-suffering women just made both the menfolk look stupid.

I was objecting to you-have-to-laugh's contention that just because some people still use those insults, then those sitcoms must have been failures. My contention was that anyone who watched them and saw the way Eddie Booth and Bill Reynolds behaved and got henpecked for it, was simply beyond help anyway.

The demise in BBC comedy has been catastrophic in the last few years as I've been boring people for years on this very forum :)
It's all woke bullshit with the BBC agenda. Drama, documentaries, news, all riddled.
There is no BBC comedy I can think of in recent years that I'd want to watch or could name as something I thought funny, not so many years ago there was loads.

The BBC just needs put down IMHO. Boyle, Hislop and Kumar can do Guardian christmas lunches.

Responding to the deletion of the “Germans” episode of Fawlty Towers from BBC-owned streamer UKTV, Cleese says:

“The Major was an old fossil left over from decades before. We were not supporting his views, we were making fun of them. If they can’t see that, if people are too stupid to see that, what can one say?”

I totally agree that these left wing apologist are thick, just look at the Banksy mural removed by Tendring council in 2014,
it was an exotic looking bird sitting next to pigeons who held up placards saying things like 'Go back home' and Go back to Africa'.
He was mocking UKIP winning the local elections, but council cheifs panicked in case it offended anyone,
they received 400 complaints for removing it, and 1 person supported them.
Once they found it was Banksy, they asked him back again, when they knew it would be worth a fortune to them.
He never returned as far as i know. CryCryCryCry

Just watched Love they neighbor for the first time ever .... can't see how it paints blacks in a bad picture from the episode i saw (apart from the loud music party next door maybe )

white bloke portrayed as a complete moron ,as he was .Plain

black guy next door seems a good egg and seems well liked .

other then the use of certain racist words repeated far too often I think it was OK ,one or two funny gags

Coach

They saw that blacks and whites were getting on to a small degree and that's not acceptable, a united working class are frowned upon by the ruling elites

They keep saying "unite" but they don't mean it, they want divide and chaos
