Why did Boris and his team allow these people to go out and 'protest' during a global pandemic?

The cultural marxists and hard left are craving a heavy handed response. The authorities here can't fall into their trap.

The bill for policing this nonsense must be astronomical, never mind all of the other issues with it.

Has anyone figured exactly out what their tangible demands are as yet? Never mind whether they can be met. Or why 'protesting' last Wednesday and yesterday already doesn't satisfy their 'need' to protest (not withstanding the fact they are technically illegal at this point).

These marches should never have been allowed to happen. More abject failure from Boris and Co.

Just people essentially wanting to make themselves feel good about themselves but in effect mindless idiots who clearly don't care too much about human life.

How do you exactly not allow them to happen, without adding petrol to the problem?

Ahh the 1st person I've seen to blame Boris for the riots, it was was to bound to happen eventually, he gets blamed for a very thing else. Different drum please explain in detail how these protests are Boris fault.

Boris is supposed to be running the country. I could blame Cummings if you prefer?

I take your point but what kind of society are we living in when we are frightened of 'peaceful' protesters?

We can't be blind to the specific dynamics of this. They are not peaceful in the normal sense. Yes quite a few are along for the ride and social media profile. Some want to legitimately show solidarity with the protests in the US (from their perspective). Many of them are angry people, raised to believe white people are the enemy and spoiling for a fight. I don't envy the decision makers. If the protests were actually banned and actively prevented as you suggest, not only would there be a lot of violence to police that anyway, the mainstream media narrative would be that this is just the oppressed black voices being silenced again by the (white) people in power. Let's be clear, the antagonists here won't rest until they get the fight with the authorities they want.

Should have closed off Whitehall for starters. Kettle them in Traf Sq and don’t let them leave without being individually fined. That’s what would have happened to any other demo.

Lots of seething here about mass protests in london, which I do not agree with btw because of the timing.......................................less seething about packed beaches at Southend and other places but that is understandable as we all know what the climate on here is.

How many millions did it cost to police the beaches, and how many shops looted and buildings damaged? Ludicrous analogy.

No quite, because sunbathers are not complaining about being adversely affected by the virus, to my knowledge.

Some might argue anyone comparing sunbathing to violent 'protesting' and abusing and goading police right up to their faces, daubing graffiti on war memorials, lobbing missiles at police, into downing street and flares at police horses is, erm, think as pig sh1t.
