I was watching Marlon Starling recently on YouTube forgot how technicaly good he was
Report DenzilPenberthy May 26, 2020 11:05 PM BST
He's not someone I know much about mac I'll give him a watch at some point
Report DenzilPenberthy May 26, 2020 11:08 PM BST
I was into boxing in the 90s and mostly watch backwards from there I haven't got the same enthusiasm for the modern stuff
Report macarony May 26, 2020 11:10 PM BST
He didn't take many punches not during the rounds anyway he beat Michael Nun and he was a middle weight much bigger and was at the time the supposedly the best boxer in mid weight division
Report macarony May 26, 2020 11:11 PM BST
That should be beat Michael Nun inmo
Report DenzilPenberthy May 26, 2020 11:17 PM BST
Nunn had some good names on his card I watched his fight with Toney last week,Starling must've been good to go up 2 weights and be unlucky against him
Report Des Pond May 26, 2020 11:18 PM BST
Nunn actually beat Starling, but later said that Starling was one of the best he fought.

some of them maybe big upsets on paper, but within context, not really, Tyson aged 38 and washed up losing to Williams was that big a shock, he had lost 3 of his last four fights. Joshua as well given everyone knows he was not himself v the Mexican doughnut eating champion was not really a shock.
Report Des Pond May 26, 2020 11:21 PM BST
Starling also beat LLoyd Honeyghan who had a couple of years previously scored one of the biggest upsets of all time himself, beating Don Curry, who at the time was regarded as a P4P great.
Report Des Pond May 26, 2020 11:25 PM BST
Tyson losing to Williams was not a great shock at that age, but Tyson losing to Buster Douglas was a huge shock.
Report DenzilPenberthy May 26, 2020 11:26 PM BST
I agree with darren and des the list is less shocking than advertised

I remember Starling fighting Simon Brown who never quite lived up to the hype.
Report wolf3011 May 26, 2020 11:41 PM BST
Not sure how anyone can claim Joshua losing to Ruiz was " not much of a shock"
Report macarony May 26, 2020 11:43 PM BST
The Hoonyghan Starling fight was hard to watch Starlings tactics was perfect Honyghan just played into his hands but saying that I don't know if Honyghan could fight any other 5

Had lots of good Welters back then. Still remember the two Jones/Kirkland Laing fights.
Report macarony May 26, 2020 11:57 PM BST
I wonder how far Laing could have gone if it wasn't for the old wacky backy?

To me he was the most talented fighter we ever had. Never forget he did beat Duran. But like you say his out of the ring activities did for him.
