He didn't take many punches not during the rounds anyway he beat Michael Nun and he was a middle weight much bigger and was at the time the supposedly the best boxer in mid weight division

Nunn had some good names on his card I watched his fight with Toney last week,Starling must've been good to go up 2 weights and be unlucky against him

Nunn actually beat Starling, but later said that Starling was one of the best he fought.

some of them maybe big upsets on paper, but within context, not really, Tyson aged 38 and washed up losing to Williams was that big a shock, he had lost 3 of his last four fights. Joshua as well given everyone knows he was not himself v the Mexican doughnut eating champion was not really a shock.

Starling also beat LLoyd Honeyghan who had a couple of years previously scored one of the biggest upsets of all time himself, beating Don Curry, who at the time was regarded as a P4P great.

Tyson losing to Williams was not a great shock at that age, but Tyson losing to Buster Douglas was a huge shock.

I remember Starling fighting Simon Brown who never quite lived up to the hype.

Not sure how anyone can claim Joshua losing to Ruiz was " not much of a shock"

Had lots of good Welters back then. Still remember the two Jones/Kirkland Laing fights.

I wonder how far Laing could have gone if it wasn't for the old wacky backy?

To me he was the most talented fighter we ever had. Never forget he did beat Duran. But like you say his out of the ring activities did for him.
