This just says everything we need to know about the media - demanding that one man who helped us to leave the EU should lose his job, while completely ignoring that millions around the country are facing losing theirs.

More whipped up hysteria from the increasingly despised MSM.

Last night's briefing questions were risible and showed just how desperate the MSM are to get Mr Cummings sacked.

To me it shows what a great job he is doing and Boris should hold his nerve and keep him in post.

Arthur Pewty 24 May 2020 7:02AM
The Telegraph has changed its political position since The UK voted Boris into power and Brexit became a reality. The new editorial emphasis is severely disappointing, because as a Tory voter, I previously agreed with 90% of articles. I now find myself disagreeing with over 50% of articles, especially those that give airtime to the liberal, left leaning, union-supporting views. That is not the paper I subscribed to. If it were possible, I would demand my money back. As it is, I am leaving. I am not alone.

John Villiers 24 May 2020 7:09AM
@Arthur Pewty

Agreed.

The "New Agenda" Telegraph has too many poorly researched point-scoring articles apparently aimed at undermining the Government.

I've had more than enough of the new DT; Charles Moore's column is better than ever, but it's not reason enough for re-subscribing.

Joseph Giffen 24 May 2020 6:26AM
More nonsensical rubbish from the BBC and MSM abetted by the ever repulsive Blackford.

Fay Kendall 24 May 2020 7:04AM
Have you noticed that all DT articles written by the 'Global Health Security Team' don't specify who's actually writing them?

There is a new influx of Left-leaning trainee journalists on the DT ...........and not one of them worth retaining .

Easy to skew the narrative if you're hidden from view...............bit like our resident trolls.

Cape Town 24 May 2020 7:11AM
@Fay Kendall

The grammar and spelling is poor as well.

Seems that the editor these days is Tetra - fitting submissions from freelancers onto the page.
Nothing more.

It's a rag.

That sounds like a leading question edy.

It could be possible that they think they can get away with Trump's style, love it or loath it, but you just can't get away with that here. The 'f*ck you' attitude comes across most ungentlemanly with a British accent in Britain.
By:
edy
When: 24 May 20 20:42
Exactly. The British people have backbone. They won't have the elites like Cummings show utter disdain towards them for much longer.
By:

Of course there are some exceptions here and there, like can be seen on this thread.
By:

So they are obviously going to go into PR mode and flood social media with the notion that it was Cumming's genius to travel up to Durham on purpose so as to show the corrupt media for what it is. He didn't even have the virus they'll tell us!

So even the top comments of the telegraph, from actual subscribers are saying the content is switching to the left. Not my words. We are not far from the left controlling all 'mainstream' media. And right wingers are being squeezed out of new media like youtube.

If Johnson was smart, he'd have told Cummings to apologise from the get go. That would've been drawing a line under it.

If Johnson is smart now, he'd tell Cummings to resign to remove the most toxic element from the public eye. It's not like he can't call him anymore. Can also still get him paid.

If Johnson is really stupid up high in his castle, he retains Cummings through the coming storm, hurts his government, hurts the Tories as a party, hurts the trust between the public and politics.

The irony is the one thing they can't control is the gbp. Not yet, anyway. I watched FYI today and unbelievably Sky production have now got 12 year old kids spouting an anti Trump agenda.

Sad how people have been trained to believe the free press should be hyperpartisan no matter the circumstances, isn't it?

The only 'hyperpartisan' 'newspapers' I'm aware of are left wing like the guardian.

The lockdown, the tracing app and all of the restrictions are unworkable now. Most people will think if Johnson, Cummings, Jenrick, Patel and the rest hold them in such contempt why should they continue to make sacrifices, when Boris and his chums can do as they like? Even if he has a u-turn and gets rid of Cummings, it's too late. He has insulted the ordinary public and dismissed their concerns in the most reprehensible way. Anyone feeling the strain of the restrictions might feel quite justified in telling them to stick their rules up their fat @arse. Angry

They don't want the paper they subscribe to, to be infiltrated by left wing leanings it seems. I'm sure if the guardian started producing articles favouring the gvnt, the BBC would be discontented.

Seriously, Cider. There is no doubting that the Daily Telegraph is a right-wing publication. Being a right-wing publication does not mean you make yourself a pure propaganda outlet that never ever questions the government (if it's currently right-wing...though some people on here are saying the Tories are not right-wing).

You quoted a bunch of people that bemoaned that the Daily Telegraph is not a 24/7 propaganda outlet of the government.

media scared to say it as cummings new like the,[ are brexiteers ,to stupid line], but I,ll say it

nothing more cowardly, sickening than 2 well off elites using their 4 yr old child as dead cat, because they got caught out getting out of virus riddled london for isolation

no mention in mrs cummings spectator article of them panicing, ringing round for child care, instead they played dr,s and nurses for 2 weeks,

the child care is an inverted pyramid of piffle to coin  a phrase, one minister adviser quoted as saying during 12 hrs of finding a response concentrate on the kid angle, disgusting vermin the 2 of them

I was stating that the media should not be judge jury and executioner. It's basically turning into a twatter mob. I was demonstrating that what many would perceive to be the most right wing broadsheet (ie serious) is now publishing a lot of left wing content. So it's not biased by my opinion I posted all the top rated comments.

I haven't been following the UK MSM, but if the Mail and the Telegraph are siding against the government here, then they really believe that Cummings is a no-gooder generally, and are taking this opportunity to let you know.

Telegraph are simply pragmatic and recognize that, no matter what they write, the British public aren't, apart from a few exceptions, going to buy the total bull coming from Boris and Cummings on this. Trying to save the Tories from further damage.

Yes, they are certainly pragmatic. But I'd wager this goes beyond that. Think geo-politically.

Does nobody see that? Left wing now controls education, broadcast media, much of the civil service, social media and now taking over the 'printed' press. This however is not at all representative of the public.
