Under the guise once again of "Protecting the NHS"

But Prof Dingwall, who has had no involvement in the plans, said the Government needed to decide in the next week — or risk facing supply problems.
He said it could cost £500million but that it would be a sound investment.

Nice pay days all round for some people.

A BMJ article from 2014 questioned the benefits of mass flu vaccinations.

Not sure why they need to decide next week but even if it is not enforced, there will be a massive take up. I would guess >65%.

You cannot force a fellow human being to be injected with something from big pharma.

Would be disgraceful.
Report John.W.Henry. May 14, 2020 10:57 AM BST
They will try. Thank god for the forgers Cool
Report i_agree_with_nick May 14, 2020 11:00 AM BST
I don't think it will happen although there are precedents for enforced vaccination.

That would mean 45 million people attending clinics within a period of a few weeks. About a million people per day!

I don't know what effect it would have on flu, but I can make a good guess on how it might affect the spread of chicom-19.
Report screaming from beneaththewaves May 14, 2020 11:06 AM BST
To put it another way - I wouldn't be surprised if flu vaccinations actually get cancelled this year!
Report i_agree_with_nick May 14, 2020 11:14 AM BST
The uptake for the seasonal flu vaccination is about 43% in the UK (over 70% for those aged 65+).
Report InsiderTrader May 14, 2020 11:14 AM BST
The idea you have to force people to do anything for their own health is absurd.

The best thing for the government to do is advise people. Give them the honest facts as they know it and let people make their own choices.

This is how Sweden flattened the Covid curve and has no threat of a 'second wave' or worries about how to get out lockdown.

Does this article actually say that flu vaccine will be enforced or compulsory?

If vaccine is free of charge to anybody who wants one (but not illegal to not have one) , would anybody on here object?
Report InsiderTrader May 14, 2020 12:33 PM BST
Denmark have the powers for forced medication I think.
Report i_agree_with_nick May 14, 2020 12:37 PM BST
Denmark have passed legislation for treatment; not a vaccine.
Report Mexico May 14, 2020 12:40 PM BST
It

Are you saying than Denmark can force UK residents to have the flu vaccine this Autumn.

The Sun article didn't mention that.

Would you object if UK provides flu vaccine to anybody living in UK if they want it but won't punish people if they don't have vaccine.

Denmark's parliament on Thursday night unanimously passed an emergency coronavirus law which gives health authorities powers to force testing, treatment and quarantine with the backing of the police

As well as enforcing quarantine measures, the law also allows the authorities to force people to be vaccinated, even though there is currently no vaccination for the virus.

Denzil, I actually misread the thread title - it's about enforcing uptake of the flu vaccine not a future COVID-19.

However, regarding COVID-19, do you have a link confirming the text you have posted in bold?  When I looked at Denmark's law, I read about enforced testing, treatment and quarantine but nothing about enforced vaccination.

As others have said, no government should force any individual to subject their own bodies to any injection of a foreign substance against their will. We have enough government interference in every aspect of our lives without being told what to do with our bodies which crosses a line into very dangerous territory .. what's next , a microchip to determine where and what we are all doing 24/7? That said, the phone app recently introduced is veering towards that mentality.

Wolf

The phone app being tested won't be compulsory in UK will it?

Not even clear if private venues would be allowed to refuse entry to people without app. I suspect the Himsn rights industry would prevent that "discrimination "

Can't see how they would enforce it but many places may have some kind of entry procedure which means having an app or "vaccine certificate " is mandatory

I hope they do wolf.

But fear the lawyers will claim it is discrimination against age/ethnicity or something else.

It makes sense if running a restaurant that you take some measures to keep staff & customers safe.
Taking temps (non contact) & checking an app would be fine. Would be easy enough to design app so doesn't provide any information by just opening it up - I.e. Alerts sent by text .

As app not ready yet is all speculation- the reports about the trial don't mention anything about an "all clear" "red alert " actually on the app. Still a lot of people without smartphones.
