Yep Bap, chit chat is  particulary enjoyable when the ‘Rumpole of the Bailey’ type arrive, grasping their lapels, to carry out what they consider a forensic cross examination of someone’s comment, only to prove the point for them.

No Cider 10.23, no sniping or macabre excitment, that in itself is quite a nasty deflection tactic. All goes back to your opening post when you called the opposition leader a k hunt for asking questions in parliament to a goverment that has made a complete and utter balls of the pandemic, and what is worse you well know that they made a shambles, you are pitiful in your defense of what the tory goverment is in the process of doing to the UK and worse for colluding with it.

Seems palpably obvious to me that there's a sub section of people that are hoping that it goes as badly as possible. I'm not directing that at you as I don't know enough about you, but those people exist, many have jobs in the media.

Starmer wasn't a cant for asking a question, he was for completely misrepresenting the report deliberately by leaving out the qualifying preceding sentence. From someone claiming to be constructive. imho.

He didn't misrepresent the report

Johnson did

Even you would agree that the preceding sentence completely changed the context. Or maybe not.

The context that Johnson used it?

He would have been unaware else he would have raised it at the time

Clear what Starmers question was,..

Clear what Johnson answer was

Clear Johnson lied

Check hansard

Testiculate

The act of Johnson waving his arms around whilst talking bollocks

Potlis: all a bit strange on here lately what with lebties pretening to be Tories & such; in fact i'm beginning to believe i'm really a 5.2 Labour voting, non ganja smokin West Indian vegan, who's into prog rock & wears Farah keks

Starmer is chalk and cheese compare to "chicken" Corbyn. He's a breath of fresh air to any genuine Labour supporter. I'm so glad he's dumped sleazeball Borgon (the unacceptable face of Labour).

I thought he made a reasonable start but it's clear he actually has no alternative solutions to offer, and has very quickly degenerated into dirty politics.

The leader's debates going into the next election will be fun, at one podium you will have Starmer, at the other you'll have a fridge.

He might be pleasing his forensic cheerleaders misrepresenting text right now, but he won't be able to get away with after timing for the next five years. One would like to hope so for the future of the party.

Talking of dirty tricks, how would you describe the actions of Nadine Dorries, Lucy Allen, and Maria Caulfield on twitter earlier today ?

Starmer is without doubt a competent performer however he has a lot of baggage in his locker over Operation Yewtree which i'm sure will be brought back into the public domain when the time is right.
It is well known by everyone who breathes that Boris is hopeless on detail and to be perfectly honest the majority of voters won't in the greater scheme of things give a damn if care home deaths are 10,000 greater than reported. The juggernaut is moving on and the economy has quite rightly become centre stage. I don't accept that nothing needs to be done ;what is required is a couple of years of hard austerity as there's no way the downturn is going to be V shaped.

Sometimes you have to get in the gutter where your opponents are

I just couldn't see Starmer writing a letter to Boris telling him what a meanie he has been in parliament.

Perhaps if Boris had wrote a grandstanding letter made public that doubled down on the earlier misrepresentation attempt in parliament he would feel he had little option but to respond in kind.

You'll find that the labour party leadership have already been there for some time. One recalls Corbyn holding a press conference to explain how he had evidence that Boris had offered the NHS to Trump. tbf, one couldn't really accuse Corbyn of being 'forensic' Laugh

By:
----you-have-to-laugh---
When: 14 May 20 15:24
Maybe if Boris hadn't lied he would not have triggered the correspondence

Does he think the next lie will not produce another letter

The effect will be cumulative

If the end result is Bojo better prepped for PMQ eg better read/informed on details objective's achieved. Bojo can no longer ride roughshod/dismissive against Starmer like he did against "chicken" Corbyn - a Labour leader with little standing outside his immediate Labour cronies, and someone not fit to be at the Despatch Box let alone being leader of the main Opposition Party.
By:

I agree that Boris may have took Starmer at his word and may have not been prepared for the trap attempt. Though do we feel Boris should be putting all his efforts in the current fight against the virus rather than preparing for political traps laid by the opposition during a national crisis? A question of priorities I guess, and at least we know where Starmer's lay now, if we didn't know for sure by now.
By:
----you-have-to-laugh---

It wasn't a trap

That document simply hadn't been updated and as such was government advice
By:

The government schools advisor is suppling parliament a whole new load of bad government decisions and bad practices ready for next weeks questions, or week after

Should be a pelanty kick for Starmer if required
By:

So why leave out the fundamental qualifying preceding sentence of the quote? That was the only reason it was selected, as without the previous sentence the quote is completely misrepresentation.
By:
----you-have-to-laugh---
When: 14 May 20 15:47
He's not Neil kinnock

You would expect pm to have working knowledge of his governments policy

Why would he need to read the whole document to parliament when it's in public record already

The lengths that folk will run to as a defence for Johnson lies will also be cumulative
By:

When: 14 May 20 15:50
Even if we leave the misrepresentation aside, if he felt the advice was out of date in early March why wait until 13th May to raise it. Why wait until PMQs?

Or anti Boris activists have been pouring over historic records in an attempt to find a smoking gun. Can't find one but do find a partial quote they can misrepresent, better than nothing I guess.

As noted by Starmer

"In his speech on Sunday, the Prime Minister said that we need to rapidly reverse the awful epidemic in our care homes, but earlier this year, and until 12 March, the Government’s own official advice was—and I am quoting from it: "

An independent investigation by Full Facts found the guidelines which were updated on the 13th of MARCH,said twice that it is "very unlikely" that people receiving care in a care home will become infected.

Your attention to detail appears to be on a par with that of Johnson.

Why can't you just accept that Johnson is the wrong man to be PM during a national crisis.

I'm not disputing that it was later than ideal. Since it has been updated for two months, why raise it now?

Because the impact is only know becoming known.
