There could be a more than 10-fold increase in cycle use and a five-fold increase in walking when coronavirus lockdown restrictions are lifted, modelling by Transport for London (TfL) has suggested.
‘Many Londoners have rediscovered the joys of walking and cycling during lockdown,’ mayor says
To prevent an increase in the number of cars on the streets and accommodate the increase in cycle and foot traffic, the mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has announced several steps to transform London’s road network.
Office based people working from home, no pubs clubs theatres cinema, leisure socialising or tourists, and their modelling suggests a five fold increase in walking
Just going to bugger up the roads for people social distancing by car.
People out walking and cycling during the lockdown were getting out in the sun as that's all they could do, not bl00dy commuting

Theresa Villiers (Chipping Barnet) (Con) Lockdown rules permit people to travel to work if their jobs cannot be done from home, but some have faced criticism and pressure not to do so, including from announcements on London Underground wrongly saying that they should not be on the system unless they are key workers. Will the Prime Minister ask the Mayor to restore public transport capacity in London so that my constituents can travel safely and we can keep as much of the economy going as possible?
The Prime Minister My right hon. Friend is absolutely right that a crucial part of our success in getting transport to run safely will now be running a bigger and more expansive tube service so that people can observe social distancing. We will certainly be working with the Mayor to try to achieve that, although there must be—we will come to this on Sunday and next week—mitigations to help people who, for reasons of social distancing, cannot use mass transit. There will be a huge amount of planning going into helping people to get to work other than by mass transit. I hope that my right hon. Friend, as a former Transport Minister, will agree that this should be a new golden age for cycling.

I'm on record as stating I don't agree with Boris Johnson's green agenda. Encouraging people to cycle using sal sac schemes and the like is fine, but clogging up the roads temporary cycles lanes is not. TfL's apparent forecasting is ludicrous, as is basing policy on what activities people were undertaking to work around the lockdown.

Halving the road space with temporary cycle lanes is not going to stop people using their car. Widening the pavement is not going to stop people using their car. It will however cause more congestion, ergo pollution.

Less Cyclists in London the better, better encourage people to use busses. Cyclist ignore the lights at every single junction, cut in and out of cars causing accidents and they often get into confrontations with pedestrians.
