Lockdown rules permit people to travel to work if their jobs cannot be done from home, but some have faced criticism and pressure not to do so, including from announcements on London Underground wrongly saying that they should not be on the system unless they are key workers. Will the Prime Minister ask the Mayor to restore public transport capacity in London so that my constituents can travel safely and we can keep as much of the economy going as possible? The Prime Minister My right hon. Friend is absolutely right that a crucial part of our success in getting transport to run safely will now be running a bigger and more expansive tube service so that people can observe social distancing. We will certainly be working with the Mayor to try to achieve that, although there must be—we will come to this on Sunday and next week—mitigations to help people who, for reasons of social distancing, cannot use mass transit. There will be a huge amount of planning going into helping people to get to work other than by mass transit. I hope that my right hon. Friend, as a former Transport Minister, will agree that this should be a new golden age for cycling. |

I'm on record as stating I don't agree with Boris Johnson's green agenda. Encouraging people to cycle using sal sac schemes and the like is fine, but clogging up the roads temporary cycles lanes is not. TfL's apparent forecasting is ludicrous, as is basing policy on what activities people were undertaking to work around the lockdown.

Not sure I would want to be travelling on tube or bus for a while!

So those that have the option will take to their cars. So he wants to make the roads smaller

less cars on the road is good for people, good for animals, good for ecology, good for climate........
Diesel is done, get over it. |

The roads in London aren't built for the amount of traffic . It's a joke going anywhere . Traffic lights every hundred yards , nowhere to park , fumes killing people . Get the fatties walking and cycling seems a good idea to me . Save the nhs billions and improve everyones health . What's not to like .

Halving the road space with temporary cycle lanes is not going to stop people using their car. Widening the pavement is not going to stop people using their car. It will however cause more congestion, ergo pollution.

People commute dozens of miles, it's not a walk or cycle round the block for most.

well they will have less lane space so thats a deterrent, fines will help also if they don't comply.

Less Cyclists in London the better, better encourage people to use busses. Cyclist ignore the lights at every single junction, cut in and out of cars causing accidents and they often get into confrontations with pedestrians.
