"I'm lobbying our government and advisers to change their advice, and I want us to do that sooner rather than later.

"They are already reviewing this on the basis of our representation."

Can you believe this Mug , the Tube running has caused the deaths of thousands

What needs to be explained is where his lobbying was to shut that and his airports down .

What will need to be looked at is the knock on to the rest of the country , regarding The managing of the early stages of the virus in his great Town ..........

Does Mr Khan have:
Any evidence that they have any effect to support his demand?
Any evidence that every citizen in London could get one anytime soon?

who is going to pay for them?

Gosh this Khan May be an idiot but who is in charge of the Airports?

The evidence is South Korea, Hong Kong & Singapore where mask wearing is almost universal.

There is case for Sadiq Khan being All Mouth, No Trousers......so I'm not defending him in general just on this specific point.

The mask I've been wearing came from the Home Bargains and is probably more a dust mask.....next time I venture out may use a scarf instead.

Wouldn't any kind of cloth mask be dangerous? Droplets land on it, stay there, and you just keep breathing them in?

A non-waterproof mask could be more dangerous than no mask. ("Could be" - I'm putting the question out there.)

That's without the problem that everyone I see wearing them is constantly touching their face to adjust them. Which is the principal route for transmitting the virus.

Why do they wear masks in hospitals?

Why is this virus under better control in SE Asia?

Why do we not know if the use of masks help during a Pandemic. We had a huge exercise in 2016. The prospect of a flu Pandemic starting in China has known to be a bigger risk than Nuclear War and Terrorism.

If I had to travel on the Tube I would wear a mask and I would be reassured if others did too and wore gloves. I would also like to see hand sanitizer at stations and platforms.

I take your  point about wet masks btw but suggest they only be used for the journey not all day

Khan is beyond words.

The other day they were challenging him on why bus drivers etc weren't wearing PPE as quite a few have died.

He was saying he is following government / National health advice.

Pretty sure he is in charge of the transport in London and so he could have just made it compulsory to use them and he wouldn't have needed that much PPE either just masks for bus drivers so would have been achievable.

Now he's coming out with this, which would need millions of masks and is very hard to implement just for Political gain to make it look like he's doing something.

I think it's the 'compulsory' word which gives me the shivers more than anything. It always does.

If it's so obvious that masks are beneficial, why would you have to make non-use illegal in the first place? Why would people with a different view (the vast majority evidently) have to be placed under house-arrest?

There is a big question to be asked about personal freedoms

Oh if you are worried about compulsory just wait for the covid passport on your mobile phone!

Will going out without a mobile phone become a crime?

No. This is the UK. We do things differently here.

Besides, how on earth do you police whether anyone is actually carrying one in the first place?

I would imagine that if face masks were widely available or easily obtainable for everyone, then the advice would have been to wear them at all times.

The fact that they weren't has led to the advice that they aren't that beneficial imo. I don't believe they aren't that beneficial, I don't see how they wouldn't be. It is about not advising something that you can't provide and not creating panic, not incurring the wrath of your population, not making yourself look out of your depth or hopelessly unprepared, rather than what is the best advice.
