I used to play Yahoo chess yrs ago. One night I was being thrashed by a guy with a higher rating. He left insulting comments in the dialog box. I got a little angry. So I let slip I was black and had a big duck. (predictive text to) at that point he lost three quick games in a row? White guilt? I then told him I was white? He won a game and exited.  Chess is weird. You can play the man. I would lose against pretty girls. Tournaments. My rating was average. I never learned chess openings. If I get into middle game I do better. End games. Only play my computer now. It wins every time. Years ago I beat it twice. Sheer chance. Mad games. It's set at high level.   Best game I played was at tournament in a university in Glasgow . Hundreds of chess players went. I had not slept. Wired. Thirty hours awake. I saw every move on the board with such clarity. Mad. Like sword fight in the princess bride. Every move was like a see saw fight. He was one move from beating me. I was one move from winning. Never had a game like that before.move after move treacherous. We decided a draw. I lost the notation of the game. Regret that. He had a rank of 1500. Higher than me. Chess is for maniacs. Hþstory of chess is of men who obsess over a game. Stories of insane situations. Would make a good tv show. Pillsbury story always makes me laff . Tall man. He operated a mechanical chess playing mannequin from inside a concealed box. Cramped. Painful. He drunk heavily.spirits. Heat and pain. Moving levers. Automated sultan chess playing machine? He died young.

Is lag a big problem on these chess apps? I’ve played a couple of people recently and there seems to be a big delay between us moving, then it showing up on our opponents screen. At first we thought each other were taking long ponders over every move, but that wasn’t the case.

The link that Emitdeb posted is one we tried a few days ago. That seemed worse than the one we were using.

If I play a computer then the moves are instantaneous. Can’t seem to find an app that does the same.

emitdeb I'd just tried to give a set-up stat to build on but had given nf3 twice (I think). It's just a standard set up with castle and a holding position with the other pawns & knight e4 d3 nf2 nf3 g3 bg2 0-0

im fuming, im playing a good even match here, and im going to definatly lose now re the " PASSAT"MOVE , im white pawnc2 moving it to c4, but a bloody black b4 pawn  goes to c3 and ive lost my pawn , im fuming

That's a much better position than some of your previous ones! Pretty drawish but try and keep your queen and rook working together if possible on open lines. Be active, don't just sit and get ground down.

Agree with pp. Try and pressurize the e6 pawn and the b7 pawn with Qe4 and maybe Rb6 if possible, but it may be necessary to play Qe3 to protect f2. I think you should win but advice probably tto late now. Good luck.
