I also like Dances with Wolves. Slammed by many but for me it just has a lovely feel to it of how the native Americans lived albeit probably romanticised.
And also a bit of a similar feel Last of the Mohicans.

ah the utterly wonderful Frank Silvera saying "oooooombre" One of the best segments ever. Frank of course went on to reprise his Mexican role in The High Chapparal, even though of course he was a black actor from Jamaica

Western s were probably the greatest genre of films.
The amount of different ones mentioned above that we all could identify with and say oh yes forgot that one is proof enough of that
Yep Duffy the quick and the dead was excellent. Western s were probably the greatest genre of films. The amount of different ones mentioned above that we all could identify with and say oh yes forgot that one is proof enough of that
The Gunfighter was a great film Bap. I have not watched Monte Walsh, so going to watch over weekend, thanks.
Some of my favourites which spring to mind:
Stagecoach Red River The Wild Bunch Winchester 73 The Man From Laramie Lonely Are The Brave
.... I`ll give Come On The Rangers a miss
Was thinking of buying the Karl May trilogy Winnetou on Blu Ray but before buying I always consult the forum`s resident Film expert Baphornet.

Unforgiven and For A Few Dollars More are the best imo.
But neither could have happened without Shane.
The first western to show the loud and graphic violence of a gunfight. The first one to emphasize that gunfighters were not pleasant men, even if the man with the gun looked like Alan Ladd. The first one to make the battle between the old cattlemen and the government-encouraged homesteaders an ambiguous one (both sides have perfectly reasonable claims as to right and wrong).
And without Jack Palance slow, silent entrance there would have been no Lee van Cleef.

I used to take Americans on day trips in the south of France, in my minivan. Very often we'd visit a medieval village in the morning and I'd wait for them in the square with the van. I used to love it when they asked me what time do you want us back Tony? I'm not telling you I said but I'll give you a clue and I sang the !st line of the song, "Do not forsake me oh my darling, on this our wedding day" and they always got it, High Noon! That's my favourite western.

Hi giggity, glad you watched it, it was an incredible thing the fans did there, wasn't it, a heck of an undertaking. Not surprised all the names have been taken up, I expect they went very quickly, and it shows the popularity of this film around the word. But an on-line one is better than nothing . I love all the Leone westerns, my personal favourite is Once Upon..West (and indeed my favourite film of all).
