John - what life assurance policy do you have? Can you even buy policies which are only for cancer. My one will pay out if I die of cancer, road traffic accident, Covid19, other virus , food poisoning (I think it may even pay out for sucide ) Can't the death certificate have more than one cause of death anyway? I've got to say that Mexico has a point here. In all my years advising on life assurance I don't recall one that was for a specific illness. It's a LIFE ASSURANCE; it pays out on death. The only exception is when a policy is loaded or certain illnesses are not covered, but I've never heard of one for just one illness. Even CRITICAL ILLNESS policies pay out on the diagnosis of an insured illness, regardless of other ailments.

I've now watched the video (thanks for that) and whilst a few interesting points were made, I would still find it hard to believe that a policy exists (USA or otherwise) that protects against just one illness. Why would anyone take out a single-death-cause policy when life assurance policies that cover death (full stop) are as cheap as chips? I still think Mexico has a relevant point here on this one.

Are you telling the truth about your cancer only (& only one cause of death allowed) life assurance in USA. Not only does it sound a very "strange" ( maybe made up) policy but you haven't provided any links to these policies. Below is a link from AIG (aimed at USA market) explaining what life assurance is - it is pretty much the same idea as the UK policy . Somebody pays every month for a set period of time - if they die in this time then there is a payout. Your cancer only policy just doesn't make any sense- who would buy it. Life assurance is often used to cover mortgage payments. What would be the point of somebody borrowing $400k - buys a home for family. Takes out life assurance but only for one type of death. At best this policy sounds a niche market, at worse it sounds like a completely made up policy. Are you telling the truth John. The link you provided aren't life assurance policies- they are health care coverage.so you pay the premium, get cancer & this insurance pays towards treatment (hospital stay/drugs/ nursing, consultant fees) Not sure what John was going on about - why would anybody buy life assurance for just one type of death. It wouldn't pay off mortgage if died in Road traffic accident. |
