Of course they are but less people die of flu/pneumonia in summer, unless its a damp summer then you are more at risk to the flu. This is going to go on for a long time sadly, because they are now adding in hayfever to the symptoms and this "self isolation" and "self distancing" will go on throughout the rest of this year and well into next year as well So just buckle up |

He said: "In young patients, they do not have any significant symptoms such as the cough and fever, but they may have just the loss of sense of smell and taste, which suggests that these viruses are lodging in the nose."

Scrolling back people are talking about " immunity " which isnt proven. There have been documented cases of re infection and more importantly you only get short term immunity from the common cold ( corona virus strain) so as medics pointed out on the news earlier why should this be any different?

what did one of them say about lap dancing or overlap or some other excuse to cover their confusion
|
|
By:
You mean Sir Patrick Vallance? Chief scientific advisor.
The coronavirus deaths will not be on top of this. Many would be within this "normal" number of expected deaths. In short, they would have died anyway. It was a point conceded by Sir Patrick at a press conference on Thursday when he said there would be "some overlap" between coronavirus deaths and expected deaths - he just did not know how much of an overlap. |

The British lady aged 52 who died in Bali
Kimberley Finlayson, 52, had underlying health conditions and had two emergency operations in an Indonesian government hospital before dying on holiday. So underlying health issues, report doesn't say what the two emergency operations were for, but it's the Coronavirus that's killed her? Her husband, who had evidently been in close contact with her, tested negative for the CV. |

"Ireland still on only 3 deaths. Looks like our government has really fooked this up by not acting sooner."
Ireland has a higher per-capita infection rate. |

He talks well bigmo. I watched this awhile ago and was surprised to learn Coronaviruses are present each year.
|
|
By:
Which is why this particular one has been named COVID-19 to distinguish it from others such as MERS and SARS.
Coronaviruses are a group of related viruses that cause diseases in mammals and birds. In humans, coronaviruses cause respiratory tract infections that can be mild, such as some cases of the common cold (among other possible causes, predominantly rhinoviruses), and others that can be lethal, such as SARS, MERS, and COVID-19. Symptoms in other species vary: in chickens, they cause an upper respiratory tract disease, while in cows and pigs they cause diarrhea. There are yet to be vaccines or antiviral drugs to prevent or treat human coronavirus infections. |

"Ireland still on only 3 deaths. Looks like our government has really fooked this up by not acting sooner."
Ireland has a higher per-capita infection rate. That's 100,000/1 We are not testing. We don't even have enough testing ready to test all NHS staff!! We are a fecking shambles |
|
By:
The only figure worth any salt is the deaths figures. The number of Irish infected, highligts how many are really infected in the UK. If every Irish case has been detected and the death rate is extrapolated there are 61,000 cases in the UK.
But not every Irish case is detected. Say half have been. That means there are 122,000 cases in the UK But, hang on again, there is a lag between cases and deaths of 3-6 days and cases are doubling every 3 days, so an estimate of 244,000 and 488,000 is probably nearer the mark. |
