To maintain morale, World War I censors minimized early reports of illness and mortality in Germany, the United Kingdom, France, and the United States.
Papers were free to report the epidemic's effects in neutral Spain, such as the grave illness of King Alfonso XIII, and these stories created a false impression of Spain as especially hard hit. This gave rise to the pandemic's nickname, "Spanish flu". Historical and epidemiological data are inadequate to identify with certainty the pandemic's geographic origin. |

Leftiview take 2:
Rest of Europe generally has a much higher infection rate than the UK, it's a world pandemic running away a what seems a predictable exponential rate. "Boris's fault". |

That’s your interpretation of valid scrutiny, magnified by a lack of critical thinking.

maybe it would be better if the scientists did the press conferences by themselves? andy burnham said he did some when he was health secretary and dealing with swine flu but soon realised it was best left to the experts. (for the hard of thinking that does not mean i support labour).
i dont understand why they still trust their model, after they put some real numbers into they discovered if they had carried on with the mitigation strategy 250,000 would die. why arent the press asking them this? the new strategy (suppression) specifically mentions 12-18 months to get a vaccine. the 12 weeks comment was probably made up on the spur of the moment, at the later press conference with scientific bods the cmo said we are in this long term. |

if you didnt know otherwise you might wonder about the origin of this nasty virus. the cpc and its dictator for life xi must be delighted. chinas well-documented contempt for life, human and animal producing yet more death to add to its monster total. i love to say i told you so, and i have been for years, boring on that china should be a pariah state as s.a. was, with less reason. the reparations should be so onerous as to end it, but they wont be. instead we will set up inquiries to determine why the response was inadequate. and it was. but the chinese, and i use the epithet advisedly because it is the centuries-old practice of wet markets full of wild animals kept in stupefyingly horrible conditions that has led to this catastrophe, not the cpc, they just lied about it, will get off lightly. now is not the time for recrimination someone will say, and thats true. this is horrible. but when its over, the usual useful idiots and fifth column will perform as they always do, blaming the west, and 'capitalism'. socialism, despite its appalling record of failure, is never scrutinised with any detachment. |
