No effort to protect the elderly and vulnerable in society and this seems premeditated with this herd immunity theory.

I think Italy and South Korea were late to acknowledge the presence of Covid-19 hence the magnitude of deaths compare to other countries. However, I hope the measures presently (and future) advised and deployed in London and the rest of the UK will see us in better stead than experienced by these two countries.

Social distancing and social responsibility go hand-in-hand as far as Covid-19 is concerned.

The Hong Kong flu resulted in an estimated one million to four million deaths, far fewer than the 1918–19 pandemic, which caused between 25 million and 50 million deaths. The 1968 pandemic was initiated by the emergence of a virus known as influenza A subtype H3N2 (also called Hong Kong flu virus).

So hello wants a leader who was not voted in by the general public.

He wants a leader who is serious etc, please name your selection. (you wont)

Glad to know you are a scientist and know the way forward. The uk are doing fine dealing with this problem. Ignorant Londoners are the only current problem because mainly they dont care about the health of this country.

I guess you know that this virus appeared in China in November 2019, the Chinese government underplayed and lied about it all until January. The virus would had been 95% extinguished if they had been honest, yet you blame your adversary but dont tell us what should had been done.

The reason Italy has the most cases is because northern italy has over 100k Chinese imported workers that can travel between the 2 countries at will.

But i guess you know this and not trying at all, to point score.

“Mexicans are “rapists”. Muslims should be “banned” from entering America. Black and Hispanic members of Congress should “go back” to where they came from. Immigrants hail from “**** countries”. White supremacist groups contain some “very fine people”.

The debate about whether Donald Trump repeatedly calling the coronavirus outbreak a “Chinese virus” represents an act of racism or not must surely be one of the most pointless debates since mediaeval scholastics squabbled about how many angels could dance on the head of a pin.

Simply look at the man’s long and consistent record of xenophobia and then judge whether he’s using the label “Chinese virus” in a factual and entirely innocent way, as he insists.

It’s really not worth wasting any intellectual bandwidth on this question.

Similar argument for Fromage.

Report lurka March 20, 2020 10:59 AM GMT
Trump is in a bad way in terms of reelection after the emergence of this virus. He is generally anti-war (which is a good thing and something he gets no credit for btw compared to previous presidents). No President at war has failed to get reelected.

What he is doing here is dressing this up as a war against the virus and he needs an enemy to do that. Listen to the language he is uses when describing it and the fight against it. Unfortunately for him it is a war that he probably cannot win to the satisfaction of the US public, nobody could really, because all the US public care about is the economy and value of stock prices etc and he can't fight it with the US military. The stock market has grown to record levels almost from day one of his presidency, leading to very high approval ratings, but all of those gains have been wiped out in the space of 3 days. This sort of rhetoric is not a new thing for a president (War on Terror, War on Drugs etc)

The use of the term 'China Virus' is instrumental in his policy of dressing it up as a war he is fighting on behalf of the public. But it stokes up hatred of Asian people and that is not right. But that's not why he is keeps using it.
Report Just Checking March 20, 2020 12:46 PM GMT
Hong Kong Flu was called the Hong Koing Flu
Spanish Flu was called the Spanish Flu
etc..

Trump casually calls a virus that started in China, following the same pattern, and as far as we know 100%  correctness, "the China Virus" and the knee jerk lefties go into yet another "offended" apoplectic rage that it proves his racism.

Watching the palvolvian response from lefties at Trump .. quite amusing. Will they ever grow up?

no one is sure of the source of the spanish flu, the usa and france have been put forward as possibilities.
Report Angoose March 20, 2020 12:58 PM GMT
To maintain morale, World War I censors minimized early reports of illness and mortality in Germany, the United Kingdom, France, and the United States.

Papers were free to report the epidemic's effects in neutral Spain, such as the grave illness of King Alfonso XIII, and these stories created a false impression of Spain as especially hard hit.

This gave rise to the pandemic's nickname, "Spanish flu".

Historical and epidemiological data are inadequate to identify with certainty the pandemic's geographic origin.

i dont understand why they still trust their model, after they put some real numbers into they discovered if they had carried on with the mitigation strategy 250,000 would die. why arent the press asking them this? the new strategy (suppression) specifically mentions 12-18 months to get a vaccine. the 12 weeks comment was probably made up on the spur of the moment, at the later  press conference with scientific bods the cmo said we are in this long term.

the reparations should be so onerous as to end it, but they wont be. instead we will set up inquiries to determine why the response was inadequate. and it was. but the chinese, and i use the epithet advisedly because it is the centuries-old practice of wet markets full of wild animals kept in stupefyingly horrible conditions that has led to this catastrophe, not the cpc, they just lied about it, will get off lightly.

now is not the time for recrimination someone will say, and thats true. this is horrible. but when its over, the usual useful idiots and fifth column will perform as they always do, blaming the west, and 'capitalism'. socialism, despite its appalling record of failure, is never scrutinised with any detachment.
