He was cornered as these internal policies now simply defer to the individual/complainant's interpretation. 'Leering' was recently added at my workplace. So if a female accuses you of leering, your career could be toast.
I can understand why he was fired. What I cannot understand is why he apologized? He had already lost his job, so what was there to lose? Was he afraid his pension, if he has one, might go too? He can't be a simpleton after spending so many years in this field. Why did he let them fk him? And afterwards apologized for allowing himself to get fkd?

even those defending him,his friends, workmates are giving the game away by saying he was trying to be clever,to clever by half, etc, which suggests he knew what he was posting, who to,and why,it wasn't a random quote to a random poster,if his friends/ workmates are to be believed he knew the colour, race of the person he was sending the quote to,I keep repeating this on all these racist thread,s ,they are always defending middle class, educated people who say these type of things, but when someone of an estate say dsimilar those supposedly in the no,say the fact these words ,phrases are there on the tip of their tongue, touch of a finger, ensconced in their mind is whaty makes them racist ,as well as the actual phrase
He's allowed to include Shakespeare's words in a quote to respond to someone who happens to be white, but not black. So a black person is allowed to use the same quote in response to a black person. Ergo, Stewart is guilty in the world of woke purely because of the colour of his skin. Ergo white people are expected to modify their language depending upon the race of the person they are communicating with. I would call that racist.

I repeat it againthe common rule of thumb from so called experts is that in the middle of a twitter conversation, chat, argument etc, you can pull a racist phrase out it reveals what your true thoughts, thinking are/isbut when so called well educated people who should no better say these things its not potraying their inner thinking,
Only one person in the 'spat' was seeing colour. Who's the racist then.

The error of judgement was assuming the person he was engaging with wasn't a racist. As I said before, a literal interpretation of the rules means AS likely break them.
Fully agree with you. But he could come out any time now and point out the hypocrisy. He has, as i said earlier, absolutely nothing to lose. If he doesn't then he is part of the PC brigade as far as I see it. He isn't a simpleton, 40 years in the industry he knows fully well how to report according to current agendas.
