"lift or stock" snaps? Ask some Uber drivers they've been at it for years to fool Tfl and customers. |

I know it's a scam, think he knows it's very likely a scam, but wants to find out. Has always lived on his own since his parents died 20/30 years ago maybe, and doesn't go out much, probably haven't seen him for 8 years or so myself, luckily we have arranged to go for a drink before the date arrives, will try to talk some sense into him. I'm assuming that he hoping some bird will turn up, probably doesn't really think will look like photos but if shes half fit, could get himself into a lot of trouble.

It beggars belief that people get taken in by stuff like this. Not that you nedd one one to know it's a scam, but the give away is that she's gone to sell a property she'd inherited. She'll need money whilst she's waiting for the sale to go through.
What you can try and do is go back to your friend and try once more to make him see sense. A quick google and I found this: https://www.aarp.org/money/scams-fraud/info-02-2011/scam_alert_online_romance_for_love_or_money.html "After a few weeks of sweet talk, there comes the inevitable hook: Your friend needs your help. You may be asked to send money for some personal emergency or a plane ticket to come see you. The scammer may say that he or she is unable to cash a paycheck due to working overseas: Let me send you my check — you can cash it and then wire-transfer the money back to me. The check looks genuine, but in fact it's counterfeit, and you can be liable for funds that you send to your friend — and perhaps arrested for check fraud. Other scammers will ask you to join in phony business ventures. Romance cons often involve "reshipping" schemes, in which you're sent merchandise purchased with stolen credit cards and told to forward it to an overseas sweetheart. There's a new twist that Sluppick says is "growing by leaps and bounds" (though firm statistics are few because victims are usually too embarrassed to report it): Romance scammers are claiming to be soldiers in order to target patriotic women of all ages. "I even heard from the Army about the photograph and identity of an actual retired general being used in an attempt to scam older women," says Sluppick. Whatever the angle, if you fall for the first come-on, you'll get follow-up pleas until you wise up or run out of money. After that, you'll never hear from your sweetheart aga" |

But the pic could easily have been lifted off of a facebook profile. That, provided the lifter was smart enough and didn't pick a public picture, won't show up in image search. Still worth searching the image.

Has it been all text/msg based? Do they speak on the phone? I don't know, think it was a message he received whilst i was with him. Certainly didn't speak. |

Yeah. I think Clydebank nailed it earlier. There will be a problem selling the house and money will be needed for a flight...

She's not black, she's white, and from stevenage when she 1st contacted him.I Went to a funeral with him yesterday, told me she has said has already got her Air ticket and is bringing her pet Pug with her to stay!
She has said that dog only needs his inoculation certificates and no quarantine necessary. Got rather angry with me at the wake afterwards, when old pals were showing each other photos of their wifes/girlfriends/children etc, i said show them the pictures of your girlfriend! Told me in no uncertain terms to mind my own business. Whether he was embarrassed or didn't want to be possibly ridiculed i dont know, but apparently he's meeting her Friday, so we will see, he'd rather got the hump with me but i did say to him if he wants to leave any sums of money/credit cards etc with me, until he was sure she's ok he could, but i don't think he will, will phone him on Sat to see if everything is OK. |

"Currently, any dog, cat or ferret entering the UK must be vaccinated against and blood tested for the disease before being quarantined for six months."
6 months in quarantine costs how much? |
|
By:
ah hang on that's the old rules.
"Pets from unlisted non-EU countries such as India, Brazil and South Africa will be able to enter the UK if they meet certain strict criteria to ensure they are protected against rabies, including a blood test and a three-month wait before they enter the UK." |

She's being quite clever imho.

I'm just fascinated to see how it all unfolds!

You must keep us informed! If it's all above board it will be the biggest shock since Rotherham came from 3-0 down to beat Solihull last night.
Some issue with the innoculation certificate seems to be where it's going for me. Maybe she gets stranded at a stopover airport. |

I think he should play along and say how much he loves pugs and if she could send her a picture of her and her dog giving him a wave from Ghana he would be over the moon.
|

She won't turn up is 1.01
Expect to get a text saying there was an accident on the way to the airport and she missed the plane. The money from the sale of her house has not arrived yet so she is stuck in Ghana with no money. Please can he send her money to pay for hotel and new ticket for the next flight which is in a couple of days time. £2k should do it |

I do not think she'll show up either. It'd be extremely difficult to explain in person if one is different to that in the photograph. A sob story as an excuse most likely, with a request for a financial assistance to keep "friendship" ongoing.

It's highly likely a bloke. There are whole industries in Nigeria and Ghana for these types of things. See Yahoo boys or Sakawa boys.

There are so many possibilities for mishap with the house sale and the dog. Imagine if she has to stopover in Morocco/Spain/Portugal say and poor Dusty the dog has to be put down, unless she receives money to kennel him for 3 months.

Ghana and Nigeria are the fraud capitals of the world. It's the main occupation for some there as in Thamesmead, London.
