Although not the biggest flood Britain has had, it was one of the most spectacular
and most studied. Interest was shown in the small scale as well as the larger effects
on the landscape. Green studied the effects on river courses, erosion and deposition
and Gifford and Kidson studied land-slipping and its causes in the upper reaches of
the Exe. Whilst it is still possible to see landforms created by the flood and to
calculate its flow from remaining flood channels, most of the evidence of the flood
has now disappeared, although parts of the West Lyn - the Glen Lyn gorge and part
of the headwaters near Woolhanger - are now a geological Site of Special Scientific
Interest for the evidence they show of the flood. At first it seemed that the flood
confirmed the theory that most of the shaping of our landscape occurred during such
violent events that were perhaps hundreds of years apart. However, work by
Anderson and Calver on how the great scars and piles of boulders left by the flood
have largely been removed by commonplace fluvial activity has changed our view of
the shaping of landscape. Few now remember the disaster but its study has had far
reaching effects upon our understanding of erosion and the way we deal with floods.

It is like it has never happened before  but suits the narrative doesn't it?

The North Sea flood of 1953 was one of the most devastating natural disasters ever recorded in the United Kingdom. Over 1,600 km (990 mi) of coastline was damaged,[4] and sea walls were breached in 1,200 places,[5] inundating 160,000 acres (65,000 ha; 250 sq mi).[4] Flooding forced over 30,000 people from their homes,[4][5] and 24,000 properties were seriously damaged.[6][5] The damage is estimated as £50 million at 1953 prices, approximately £1.2 billion at 2013 prices.[4]

Probably the most devastating storm to affect Scotland for 500 years, the surge crossed between the Orkney and Shetland Isles. The storm generated coastal and inland hazards, including flooding, erosion, destruction of coastal defences, and widespread wind damage. Damage was throughout Scotland, with 19 fatalities reported.[7] The fishing village of Crovie (then in Banffshire, now Aberdeenshire), built on a narrow strip of land along the Moray Firth coast, was abandoned by many, as entire structures were swept into the sea.

The surge raced down the East Coast into the southern North Sea, where it was amplified by shallower waters. In Lincolnshire, flooding occurred from Mablethorpe to Skegness, reaching as far as 3 kilometres (2 miles) inland. Police Officers Charles Lewis and Leonard Deptford received George Medals for their part in rescue work; Charles Lewis leapt from the Police Station upper window to save an elderly couple being swept away in the 3 feet (1 m) floodwater, carrying them to a house across the road to safety, then continuing rescue work for several hours until he found a working telephone to call for help. Leonard Deptford was off-duty at his son's party when the wall of water hit. He realised the elderly were vulnerable as the Roman bank was breached and he dragged and carried many to safety. At one house he found a bedridden elderly couple with their middle-aged daughter; in the waist-high floodwater he lashed together oil cans to make a raft, to which he tied the couple and pulled them to safety. He carried on until the next day, his last rescue a dog.

In individual incidents, 41 died at Felixstowe in Suffolk when wooden prefabricated homes in the West End area of the town were flooded.[8] In Essex, Canvey Island was inundated, with the loss of 58 lives. Another 37 died when the seafront village of Jaywick near Clacton was flooded.[9] Reis Leming, a US airman, was awarded the George Medal for his bravery in rescuing 27 people in the South Beach area of Hunstanton.[10]

In East London, water poured from the Royal Docks into Silvertown, where it drained into the sewers but flooded back in Canning Town and Tidal Basin. William Hayward, a night watchman at William Ritchie & Son, died of exposure to gas from a damaged pipe; he was the only fatality. Almost 200 people were homeless and took refuge at Canning Town Public Hall.[11]

The total death toll on land in the UK is estimated at 307. The total death toll at sea for the UK, including the MV Princess Victoria, is estimated at 224. Total damages were estimated to be £50 million (£1,370 million today).[12]

another incident or incidents is this panic  flooding that happened to a business partner of mine
remember the diversion of excess water in landon Thames over the last 10 years
in all their wisdom
released water from the thames
I will have to drag up those details as they were very painful for my dear friend's business and house

the damage they did by a bad move was amazing to see!!!

it is all about setting the 'panic' agenda and excuses to duck behind when much more can be done
Wonder how the dutch get on below water
I think they learned a lot - but we simply march with no suggestions except PANIC  writ large

One
basic
truth can
be used as
a foundation for
a mountain of lies,
and if we dig down deep
enough in the mountain of lies,
and bring out that truth, to set it
on top of the mountain of lies; the entire
mountain of lies will crumble under the weight of
that one truth, and there is nothing more devastating to a
structure of lies than the revelation of the truth upon which
the structure of lies was built, because the shock waves of
the revelation of the truth reverberate, and continue to
reverberate throughout the Earth for generations to
follow, awakening even those
people who had no
desire to be
awakened
to the
truth.

Gentlemen, You waste your time trying to educate the Neanderthals AKA Charlie and his 8rselicker scientist called mexico,

There is no facts here just opinions. No f**ker knows the definite truth about this matter yet a few of us can see the agenda. Nothing new just the same old same old propaganda where the masses are taken for a joy ride by team Gore and the thurnderburgs etc etc.

If the Thurnderburgs really wanted to assist in helping with the reduction of pollution they should be given push bikes to cycle to India and China and get some assistance from team extinction rebellion in the tour de polluted world and start the protesting there. See how long that lasts Wink

It is all a con, a hoax, a deception, call it what you will, but as in many situations created by the mean machine it is only serving one agenda. THE GOLDEN FLEECE.

The aforementioned dopes have no concept about the world they live in and take everything presented to them at face value failing inexplicably to ask themselves the big questions .....

WHO BENEFITS ?

They are a lost cause and even when presented with facts such as Mickey Mouse was one of the 11k scientists on the OP report they chose to ignore it.

It would be my best assumption that the pier review carried out on the 11k report was done by the confirmed NASA spokesman Hansen, you must remember him surely ? He is the man who invented the new 14. Or did he just change it from 15 ?

Its all balony lads yet the usual mob get suckered in to the narrative. It really is quite depressing. For a similarly i would suggest that they are shown the light at the end of a tunnel yet prefer to turn their back on it and proceed to walk back into the darkness.

Bless Silly

A 10 year old can grasp the idea of per capita.
India is in the bottom half of CO2 emissions per person.

I suppose you think UAE, Kuwait , Aussies are low down the list of CO2 emissions?

Do you understand basis statistics- come on John this is not even GCSE level . LOL and you actually have the cheek to mention "trying to educate " in your post. It is clear you lack the most basic understanding & education in statistics.

There is a real theme emerging from certain posters on this thread. A total belief (seemingly based on you tube videos)
that they have it all worked out and know the "real truth."
It seems the rest of us are urged to question everything and never believe what we are told while they don't need to
as they already know it all. What a ridiculous premise Devil

Northandark ..........No one here will ever know all that they need to know, however, some will be prepared to think outside of the box which has been provided for them and build their own perception of what is really going on. To do that you have to read as many books as you can study as much history away from the perceived avenues of knowledge that is possible and seek guidance from those who you discover through your own journey that know far more than you do or ever will do. Even then
you still have to suffer fools who think that it is clever to cast doubt on anyone who strays away from the beaten track. So sad the song. Cry

Loon tubes need to be cherry picked if you want to build your understanding of everything but this skill cannot be taught, you have to be able to evolve into being able to see through the many deceptions which are placed in your way.

Hope this helps but there again maybe it wont.Confused

The deep set beliefs that you doubtless have will never enable you to get on the correct path  but fear not you are far from alone Sad

Why not come out and name names rather than hide behind the mask of obscure statements. Lets see what you have got in your locker ? Or are you just another goon who sways the way the wind takes you ?

I can assure you that science & mathematics IS a skill which can be taught to those intelligent enough to learn new skills.
Just because you failed basic maths & science does not mean the rest of the planet can't be taught basic science.

You stick to "cherry picking loon tube videos " & keep believing that failing all your exams isn't a problem.

Hope this helps but there [sic] again maybe it wont [sic]Confused

Imagine what it is like as a child at school trying to have a discussion about it?  Anything doubting the efficacy of the words of Lord Gore, princess greata or Rising damp   - or whatever they are called (you know the anarchists behind XR)  will condemn you to ostracism.  with no one speaking to you in the playground any more - they did it with gallileo some time back -  the guy had the temerity to doubt the earth NOT being the centre of all things ho ho

J Waffle Henry offers nothing to any thread. His only mantra is the well-rehearsed clap trap of the conspiritards.

He urges us to think outside of the box but before you can do that you have to know what's inside the box to start with. Progress in science, and other disciplines, was often made by people doing just that (thinking outside of the box). But, and it's a big but, they had more than a fundamental understanding of their discipline to start with.

That is what conspiritards lack and where education comes in as it teaches skills like critical thinking, respect for information sources and, amongst other things, the ability to communicate well. All of these are clearly lacking in his posts.

He tells us that we have to read as many books as possible which I would tend to agree with but reading David Icke and his ilk isn't going to do you any good. As for cherry picking loon tubes I don't think that needs answering.

He has, for whatever reason, chosen to go the uneducated conspiritard way. That's his choice but when he keeps spouting bollocks I'll keep pointing out why he's talking bollocks.
