Not so sure he is doing the right thing for himself here. Many leavers will not like this new deal, especially Farage and the Brexit party, (and their voters), and they will certainly bring all other opposition parties into this. If he gets the  election he wants and campaigns with this 'new' deal, he may well regret it. Discuss.

I agree HGS, very risky for the reasons you mention.

Surely even corbyn realises this is his best chance??

Corbyn very much wants an election, the issue is that, like the Conservatives, his view is far from universal within the senior members of the parliamentary party.

He would have enough support to get this passed surely?

If the EU  confirm an extension in line with the one outlined in the unsigned letter, and the WAB is pulled, I am increasingly of the opinion that Labour should agree to an election.

Be aware that Trump will be in the UK on December 2 and 3 to attend the NATO summit.

Ultimately, if Corbyn chooses to take the election option, the party must support that choice.
The danger remains, however, the possibility of further tricks from Johnson.

Also on the horizon is a possibility of a mass sacking of 12,000 ASDA workers on November 2.

ASDA are attempting to change their terms and conditions. As you might imagine, the changes on offer are not beneficial for the staff. They have been threatened that the changes are on a take it or leave it basis, contracts will be terminated.

About time some of these clowns in Westminster started thinking what's best for the British people instead of only thinking about their fecking party and themselves. A government in deadlock is no good for businesses, jobs and our economy longer term.

Probably should know more but are the staff there not part of a union?

Agreed, there are games being played on all sides.

ASDA workers part of GMB union.

Johnson, as is his way, being disingenuous with the election offer. Claiming that he will give additional time to debate the WAB in the full knowledge that wrecking amendments will prevent it being concluded to his satisfaction.

Rather than accept this and move directly to an election, he wants to use this reality for political gain.

ASDA are probably feeling the pinch from LIDL and ALDI who have made big inroads into their market share. Probably this or redundancies in the offing.

I strongly suspect that the ASDA saga will be resolved, the management will make an improved offer.
The last thing they want or need is a staff shortage in the run up to Christmas.

ASDA profits increased in the last financial year, forget the exact figures but approximately 600 million after tax.

In September, the firm announced an increase in profits of 9.2 per cent on the previous year, along with a total operating profit of £803m.

How on earth can ASDA sack 12,000 employees in ONE DAY.

They would then have to CLOSE ALL their Supermarkets, forthwith.

Will NOT happen.
----------------

As for a General Election on Dec 12th ... NO chance ... NOBODY wants one.

The Public are p1ssed off with ALL the MPs ... and the turnout would be the lowest ever for a General Election - being just a fortnight before Christmas.

Like our Prime Minister, ASDA have resorted to making threats that they have no real intention of carrying out.

Arn’t ASDA one of the cheaper ‘big chains’?
I’d imagine they’d weather the storm better than the likes of Waitrose who are on the extremities.
I heard yesterday a big Tesco store in Sheffield has closed and ones that remain open are having deli counters etc reduced.

I heard a commentator say the other day a winter GE would be bad for the right wing vote as many of the bigots and selfish types are old and wouldn’t risk it going out to vote....it’s their old bones apparently don’t like cold weather much....so the younger lot will gain traction.

Boris, like the rest of the tory mob couldn’t give 2 s hits about country etc. They bribed the DUP, sacrificed the general good of the country to keep the ‘broad church’ together and harvest power at all expense and now are blackmailing parliament with threats of not showing them the deal unless they get what they want.

I don’t vote normally as it’s tacit agreement of a corrupt immoral system....but I will this time.

It's a mistake for Labour if they agree as they'll get hammered I reckon.  Thata's why they are blagging, which fwiw isn't doing thenm any good.  Digging themselves into an even bigger hole by continually running away.  SNP will hose up in Scotland

You clearly can't trust Johnson with a bargepole, but the message is he's trying to get things done whilst the message Labour are giving is fudge, fudge, run away, run away.  Both of them are disingenuous toe rags.  But one disingenuous toe rag is winning the war hands down atm imo.

The BREXIT Party is the spanner in the works as w/o them in it I reckon Tories win a clear majority and BREXIT gets done.

Take a deep breath and put a cool flannel over your face, you gunna burst man.

The brexit impasse is a tory originated monstrosity, back benchers working for their donars to get tax avoidence to a new level. They dont care about anything else.
