The front page of the Sun is an absolute disgrace. The Telegraph has reported the Truck drove from NI and the Container came across from Belgium. Its seems likely the driver arrived to collect the container and discovered the scene
1) The keystone cops are in charge giving out incorrect details to the media before facts are known 2) There is a presumption this is people trafficking but if the trailer has been sitting in a park in Belgium, its easily possible, the victims climbed on board unaided as we see in Calais on TV numerous times |

Do you think this driver was known/suspected of been a member of a people smuggling ring?
I pick trailers up from the docks on a regular basis but there is no way I would be held responsible for any illegal that had got into one of our boxes, because I as the driver am picking up what I have been told to by the company I have no input into the organisation of which gets sent across at which port |

They do seemed to have been called very quickly unless the lorry had been stopped by the authorities and it was they who found the bodies
|
|
By:
you know more than me about the checking that goes on, mac would they have gone in so quickly without warning?
|
|
By:
Gone so quickly? Do you mean the people inside that died. The problem with type of trailer is it insulated so suffocating would have probably got them as quickly as the cold. The big problem is noise these fridge boxes have their own often very noisy engine
So even if people where banging on the sides of the trailer it could be difficult to hear them, but my guess is they entered the trailer in some secluded area and where already dead long before they arrived at the outgoing port, none of the port of boat staff that loaded and disembarked the trailer seems to have heard anything. |

As a general note about modern haulage most companies have their units and trailers tracked we use a company called isotrack there is various levels of isotrack some services even do all the arrangements.
What could be added to these tracking devices is a gas alarm that sends out a warning to these tracking companies if abnormal levels of co2 or other gases that the human body produces are detected in the trailer when it is in motion. Back to my previous post I think that freeze boxes are fitted with a temp alarm if the temperature is set to a specific amount any deviation over and above a certain tolerance will set off the alarm, now the question is did the alarm go off if so was it ignored or was the temperature increased by someone manually? |

I am disgusted with pic of the driver all over the papers - definitely already guilty - well done the media.
Apparently he checked the trailer HE WAS PICKING UP - and found them - immediately rang cops but why the publicity - his face all over the press - disgusting. Yes and the trafficking - albanian particularly is rife - I have banged on about it for several year - it appears the cops are not that interested. Do yah know, I think as long as it doesn't get too bad that the top cops want to let it go. Otherwise there is too much going on everywhere and they can't cope?? In london they have 900 elves listening out for someone to say a 'wrong' word. I think they are protecting one community and that is their priority. After all there's several million votes to lose!! Common Purpose? |
|
By:
There have been continual report in various articles about years of this people smuggling especially the albanians.
|
|
By:
Has anyone figured out who discovered these bodies?
|
|
By:
the driver did - went to pick up the trailer opened found reported to police straightaway
and they had him bang to rights oh I wonder at the media and the cops I really do |
|
By:
I see. I thought he had run away and was arrested from somewhere else. Funny how the news never mention that the driver notified the authorities. The news I read only said the ambulance staff called the police or the ambulances were already there when the police arrived.
|
|
By:
good point - I believe that report came from a 'friend' so could be anything
I don't think plastering the driver's photo all over the media was a very good idea. But they sure had him bang to rights |
|
By:
Funny how his cab took a very peculiar route.
Funny he is still in custody. Funny there have been several raids on premises in his home patch. |
|
By:
good point pecker - did he drive from the continent first?
Isn't the company itself under suspicion now? Smuggling of all sorts? Hopefully find out which bunch of scroats loaded them on in the first place. still don't know why his pic should be all over the media |
|
By:
Did he not come from ireland with the tractor unit to essex to pic up trailer
had he any involvement before ie he didn't bring the trailer over from abroad? so he wouldn't know anything about the content of trailer? He was just picking up? |
|
By:
'A witness told the Evening Standard that he then 'passed out' after dialling 999 for an ambulance at 1.40am yesterday morning.'
This is from the Daily Mail. I won't post the link. The scummy paper has even posted a picture of the driver's house. ![]() |
