Perhaps they are having a siesta so they can watch the “midnight marathon”
Did the IAAF get tips from FIFA on how best to sell out your sport for the oil dollar? |
|
By:
Qatar is more gas than oil, but that's just nit picking.

Think the world cup will be walking pace football..hope I'm wrong

It is scheduled for Nov/Dec when it is significantly cooler.

Will still kill us

I'd imagine most matches will be in the evening when it is cooler again.
There is a tennis tournament in early January and it does get a little bit chilly at night. |

is Lord Coe there? no bumming allowed in Qatar I believe

A place like Qatar doesn't get the World Cup without paying bribes. Everyone knows it.
|
|
By:
No place seems to get a World Cup without paying bribes. Ask Franz Beckenbauer.
|
|
By:
Even the best, mightiest, most awesome, then three time champion of the world, Germany, had to pay bribes.

I'm sure that Qatar, just like our PM, ensured that "everything was done with propriety and in the normal way."

Great 100 m final.
Result 1. A drugs cheat (USA) 2. A drugs cheat (USA) 3. De Grasse (Canada) |
|
By:
Nobody watching live, races in the middle of the night with athletes collapsing by the dozen, drugs cheats winning medals.
Athletics has done itself no favours with this championships in Qatar. Anywhere in Europe and it would have been brilliant. London two years ago was awesome; every session sold out, great atmosphere in pleasant UK summer temperatures. The corruption which led to the decision to hold it in Doha (mostly by Diack - Coe's predecessor - and his son), is just as bad as anything Blatter and co did at FIFA). |
|
By:
Hardly the middle of the night, they are just two hours ahead of the UK.
|
|
By:
don't think Coleman missed drugs tests, think he didn't update his whereabouts 3 times, or there was a filing error with 1 of them. Looks nailed on to win 100m gold in Tokyo when his main rival is 37. Ridiculous though for a World Championship 100m final the stadium must have had less than 5000 people there.

Last night they bussed in loads of Ethiopian migrant workers with free tickets. Gave a bit of an atmosphere for the 10k, but they all pi$$ed off before the men's 100m
![]() Tonight, with no distance races, they haven't even bothered turning up for free - there's about 50 genuine spectators in there tonight. They should put Seb Coe and his cronies on the red button so we can see them squirm in their padded seats. |

Proves they no longer care about the public to be honest
They make their money from corporate sponsors which is ultimately stolen from the public anyway Football will go the same way, empty stadiums but still spending millions on cr*p |
|
By:
The mixed relay proves women cannot compete with the men
Rooney was 20 seconds behind and still caught her, and he's pretty rubbish lets be honest |
|
By:
What motivates you to make posts like that?
|
|
By:
Well done to Dina for a solid silver.
I too enjoyed the mixed relay as it was something a bit different, but agree with the Cramster. Would be more interesting if the order was drawn out of a hat. Or how about a wheelchair leg ![]() |
|
By:
As was pointed out, terrible for the athletes to be competing in a World Championship with no bugger in the stadium.
A testament to their professionalism that they can produce in such a soulless environment. |
|
By:
she should skate up in the 200. hottest of hot favourites

Mixed relay was great. Excellent idea to draw them outa hat, Moon! What's the capacity of the stadium? Sure looks impressive - as was the light show for the 100m.

Women's high jump always worth watching
![]() See they've bussed in the Ethiopean migrant workers for tonight. Let's see how many stay after the 5k and steeplechase. Shame cos the last event could be a world record for Warholm in the 400m hurdles. It starts at 10.40pm local time; I suspect the workers need to be up for work about 4 hours later! |
|
By:
yep looking forward to watching Warholm later
|
|
By:
what a star!

Brilliant from Warholm.
Ok, I know it was at altitude, but David Hemerys winning time in the 1968 olympics would have won him a bronze in tonight’s race ![]() |
