Perhaps they are having a siesta so they can watch the “midnight marathon”
Did the IAAF get tips from FIFA on how best to sell out your sport for the oil dollar?
Report Angoose • September 28, 2019 1:20 PM BST
Qatar is more gas than oil, but that's just nit picking. Plain
Report black shuck • September 28, 2019 5:32 PM BST
A few in tonight but shi te times coz it's not a venue for athletical performances
Report Angoose • September 28, 2019 5:42 PM BST
The new airport is impressive.

Think the world cup will be walking pace football..hope I'm wrong
Report Angoose • September 28, 2019 6:05 PM BST
It is scheduled for Nov/Dec when it is significantly cooler.
Report black shuck • September 28, 2019 6:20 PM BST
Will still kill us
Report Angoose • September 28, 2019 6:43 PM BST
I'd imagine most matches will be in the evening when it is cooler again.
There is a tennis tournament in early January and it does get a little bit chilly at night.
Report A_T • September 28, 2019 6:51 PM BST
is Lord Coe there? no bumming allowed in Qatar I believe

True, looking at climate numbers, november/december looks best footballing temperatures (or even a bit on the chilly side).

...but it's still a shambles for other reasons.

A place like Qatar doesn't get the World Cup without paying bribes.  Everyone knows it.
Report edy • September 28, 2019 7:13 PM BST
No place seems to get a World Cup without paying bribes. Ask Franz Beckenbauer.
Report edy • September 28, 2019 7:15 PM BST
Even the best, mightiest, most awesome, then three time champion of the world, Germany, had to pay bribes. Sad
Report Angoose • September 28, 2019 7:36 PM BST
I'm sure that Qatar, just like our PM, ensured that "everything was done with propriety and in the normal way."

Great 100 m final.
Result
1. A drugs cheat (USA)
2. A drugs cheat (USA)
3. De Grasse (Canada)
Report Danno • September 28, 2019 8:36 PM BST
Nobody watching live, races in the middle of the night with athletes collapsing by the dozen, drugs cheats winning medals.
Athletics has done itself no favours with this championships in Qatar.  Anywhere in Europe and it would have been brilliant.  London two years ago was awesome; every session sold out, great atmosphere in pleasant UK summer temperatures.

The corruption which led to the decision to hold it in Doha (mostly by Diack - Coe's predecessor - and his son), is just as bad as anything Blatter and co did at FIFA).
Report Angoose • September 28, 2019 9:34 PM BST
Hardly the middle of the night, they are just two hours ahead of the UK.
Report darren_discombobulates_sports • September 29, 2019 12:28 AM BST
don't think Coleman missed drugs tests, think he didn't update his whereabouts 3 times, or there was a filing error with 1 of them. Looks nailed on to win 100m gold in Tokyo when his main rival is 37. Ridiculous though for a World Championship 100m final the stadium must have had less than 5000 people there.
Report Danno • September 29, 2019 5:50 PM BST
Last night they bussed in loads of Ethiopian migrant workers with free tickets.  Gave a bit of an atmosphere for the 10k, but they all pi$$ed off before the men's 100m Laugh
Tonight, with no distance races, they haven't even bothered turning up for free - there's about 50 genuine spectators in there tonight.  They should put Seb Coe and his cronies on the red button so we can see them squirm in their padded seats.

Proves they no longer care about the public to be honest

They make their money from corporate sponsors which is ultimately stolen from the public anyway

Football will go the same way, empty stadiums but still spending millions on cr*p
Report SontaranStratagem • September 29, 2019 9:17 PM BST
The mixed relay proves women cannot compete with the men

Rooney was 20 seconds behind and still caught her, and he's pretty rubbish lets be honest
Report Angoose • September 29, 2019 9:25 PM BST
What motivates you to make posts like that?
Report mad mad moon • September 29, 2019 9:44 PM BST
Well done to Dina for a solid silver.
I too enjoyed the mixed relay as it was something a bit different, but agree with the Cramster.
Would be more interesting if the order was drawn out of a hat.
Or how about a wheelchair leg Confused
Report Angoose • September 29, 2019 9:48 PM BST
As was pointed out, terrible for the athletes to be competing in a World Championship with no bugger in the stadium.
A testament to their professionalism that they can produce in such a soulless environment.
Report mafeking • September 29, 2019 9:49 PM BST
she should skate up in the 200. hottest of hot favourites
Report trilby22 • September 29, 2019 9:54 PM BST
Mixed relay was great.  Excellent idea to draw them outa hat, Moon!  What's the capacity of the stadium?  Sure looks impressive - as was the light show for the 100m.

Women's high jump always worth watching Love

See they've bussed in the Ethiopean migrant workers for tonight.  Let's see how many stay after the 5k and steeplechase.
Shame cos the last event could be a world record for Warholm in the 400m hurdles.  It starts at 10.40pm local time; I suspect the workers need to be up for work about 4 hours later!
Report Baphornet • September 30, 2019 6:51 PM BST
yep looking forward to watching Warholm later

Ok, I know it was at altitude, but David Hemerys winning time in the 1968 olympics would have won
him a bronze in tonight’s race Shocked

Thank god the BBC have lost all sport because they rip the **** out of a gold medal. Fair play dina though.

carenden, i used to love athletics, but have to agree with you, i  dont even follow it on the news anymore, and ive not heard anyone in my city mentioning the games

obviously something wrong with thiam but KJT has really stepped up to the mark with 3 PBs as well

she looks very drawn; maybe the new training regime but i've seen her looking better, which is strange considering what she's doing

She has clearly dealt with her disappointments incredibly well, gone away, leaned lessons, worked harder, and a gold medal is the result.

Good on you girl.
Report anubis7 • October 3, 2019 10:28 PM BST
Wonderful to see her win an outdoor world event for the first time. Very well deserved.
Report mafeking • October 3, 2019 11:02 PM BST
that score would have won virtually any global competition in history. massive winning margin in the end
Report Crawford • October 7, 2019 12:38 PM BST
Is it just me (usually when someone asks that question the answer is YES) or is it ironic that Katarina Johnson-Thompson's weakest even is the javelin?
