Product of an ever increasing overcrowded USA the population has gone from around 190 million in 1970 to 350 plus million today.
Massive demographic change has lead to a nervous population who feel they are being marginalised by a powerful elite. Things are going to get a lot worse before if ever they get better

My psychiatry degree is still in the post but since there is no rational explanation for this -- not robbery or rape or even terrorism -- surely mental illness must be favourite. (Assuming reports the boy was thrown are correct. The witness reports I've seen do not mention that but perhaps the ones who directly saw the incident were taken to the police station to make statements and were therefore unavailable to reporters.)

A six-year-old boy is in a critical but stable condition after he was "thrown" from the 10th floor of the Tate Modern art gallery in London.

The Met Police said there was nothing to suggest he was known to the victim and officers were still trying to "establish the circumstances of yesterday's incident".

A force spokesman added the child was "no longer in a life-threatening situation".

Nancy Barnfield said she and her two young sons were stalked on the viewing platform by a stranger only seconds before the horrifying incident. The 47-year-old from Rochdale was so alarmed that she warned her children to avoid him.

She said: 'He followed us around everywhere. I told my kids to stay away from that man, it went on for ages. He was acting so weird. He had his hands behind his back the whole time, his back to the wall, just watching people. We walked away from him then immediately when he was out of sight a woman was screaming 'My son, my son' and people were grabbing him.'

The child was snatched from his mother's arms by a stranger who hurled him over a barrier on the tenth floor.

She said the suspect was tall, white and bearded and became 'completely calm and silent' when detained by gallery visitors. 'He didn't fight back, didn't shout or anything,' she added. 'He was just emotionless.'

Last night it was reported that when asked why he had thrown the boy over the railing, the suspect had responded that it was the fault of social services. The witness added that a bystander then punched the suspect in the face before he was led to a toilet for his own protection.

............ Possible but I wouldn't be in the least surprised if they appeal for witnesses to the assault issuing a full description of the assailant rather than the 'suspicious acting' youth Crazy
Report Ramruma August 6, 2019 9:06 AM BST
The suspect was tall, white and bearded, with some sort of grudge against social services. The description does not actually say nutty as a fruitcake but that is the obvious inference. The man who punched him was obviously a prat since the suspect had already been detained at that point. It is unlikely this is the first man he's punched.

Let us hope le garçon français makes a full recovery.

Report i_agree_with_nick August 6, 2019 11:57 AM BST
That is very quick.

It still seems to be unclear as to whether he gave escort staff the slip whilst accompanied on a day out or absconded from the unit without the knowledge of carers.

In any case, I hope someone at the unit is called to account.

From The Sun:

A former carer who worked with the alleged attacker last year told The Sun: “He’s one of the most difficult and challenging mental patients I’ve ever encountered.

"He is stockily built and gets angry when he is denied something that he wants or is told what to do.

“He’s not allowed out unless accompanied by at least two support staff.

“He’s also intelligent. I watched an edition of the TV quiz show The Chase with him once and he answered every single question correctly.

“Something must have gone seriously wrong at the Tate because he’s not allowed out unless accompanied by at least two support staff.

"There will have to be a serious inquiry into what he was doing there.”

Police were investigating whether the teenager absconded from his unit or bolted from staff escorting him on a day trip.

A Met spokesman confirmed: “Mental health is being explored as a line of inquiry.”

If the reactionaries on here dont get the full story IMMEDIATELY, it has to be a cover up rather than other legal reasons or to not impact a case. It was pathetic stuff from a whole bunch of the same people in the thread about the young girl murdered in scotland a while back too.

Sixty six-year-old Peter Atkins from Llandaff, left his psychiatric hospital in Cambridgeshire after being released on a day visit.

In 2001, Mr Atkins killed his pregnant daughter's husband while he slept beside her in their bedroom.

The Mirror reported that he burst into the bedroom of his daughter Lisa Provoost, and stabbed her husband of eight months more than 20 times with a sheath knife.

Stephen Provoost, a 32-year-old social worker, died almost immediately.

Mr Atkins suffered from paranoid schizophrenia and had been given an indefinite hospital order under the Mental Health Act after being convicted of manslaughter.

The attack was called "mind chilling" by Judge John Griffith Williams at Cardiff Crown Court, according to the Telegraph.

Atkins left Kneesworth House Hospital in Cambridgeshire last Thursday when he was let out to shop at a local Tesco store.

Police have launched a second appeal after being no where closer to finding him Credit: Cambridgeshire Police
Police launched an initial appeal on Friday after he was reported missing.

On Sunday they issued a second appeal after they said they were no closer to finding him.

He is described as a white man of a stocky build, with short grey hair wearing black trainers, blue jeans and a white or black t-shirt.

Detective Inspector, Dave Savill said it is "out of character" for Mr Atkins to not return.

We know he was seen withdrawing cash at Royston Tesco at 2.10pm and then travelled to Royston town centre by bus, getting off outside Morrisons supermarket in Baldock Street.

– DETECTIVE INSPECTOR, DAVE SAVILL
Mr Atkins is on twice-daily medication for paranoid schizophrenia and police said he may become "aggressive or irritable without his treatment."

Police are warning he should not be approached.

It is very important for anyone who believes they may have seen Peter to contact us as a matter of urgency.

– CAMBRIDGESHIRE POLICE
It is believed he may have used the rail network to travel from Royston.

Police said Mr Atkins could be anywhere in the country but has links to South Wales.

The public are urged not to approach him but instead call 999 immediately due to his unpredictable nature.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts should call Cambridgeshire police on 101.

Report Reynard August 7, 2019 5:36 PM BST
I simply love the usual trotting out of the standard warning "Should not be approached" .
Basically it's perfectly fine for someone who is deemed sufficiently dangerous so as "not to be approached" to be out and about mingling with peaceful citizens going about their weekly shop provided nobody is foolish enough to 'approach' them . Surely this warning should be issued prior to their absconding by means of a warning either printed on their back or tattooed on their forehead or maybe an audible warning such as one gets on reversing vehicles .
I doubt very much he would have been given leave to shop in Waitrose but given his clear preference for Tesco he was probably considered a risk only to the hoi polloi Crazy
