He should know that when a PM makes a statement that the financial markets are very case sensitive to the statement, regardless of  the statement being  filibuster of not.
i am sure his advisers will tell him to tone it down but talking up a no deal could cost serious unemployment  regardless of it being spin or not.
finance companies are likely to pack up leave London and head for Europe.IMVHO.

Not when he cuts corporation tax they won’t. Frankfurt and Paris cannot compete if Boris decides to play hard ball.
Report Just Checking July 24, 2019 11:36 PM BST
I very much doubt companies are going to pack up and leave to Europe in the next 99 days on the off chance there might be a No Deal.
Report Torquemada July 24, 2019 11:52 PM BST
The EU’s finances are absolutely fooked. All Boris has to do is apply a little pressure by offering sweetheart deals to the big boys and they will roll over. The EU simply cannot compete, their finances are way too stretched already.
Report brassneck July 24, 2019 11:56 PM BST
first day of Winter NO DEAL?The country would come to a stand still,if it not in a stand still from bad weather,6 to 7 weeks to christmas,no internet,no food,no medicine,no petrol,no nothing, and perhaps no job,no heating, riots, mayhem, and a thousand other no's.
if you go for a no deal you be prepared, and boris is going for an election, but talking up a no deal can do as much damage as a no deal itself in financial terms.
Report Torquemada July 25, 2019 12:00 AM BST
Not true. There is no such thing as no deal. We would just revert to WTO rules. Threatening no medicine, no internet etc is simply risible scaremongering.

Report Torquemada July 25, 2019 12:12 AM BST
Hi, Foinavon.

The EU is totally buggered financially. Absolutely desperate. All Boris has to do is slash corporation tax and big business would clamour to base themselves in the UK - French and German firms included. There is no loyalty when billions are at stake. The EU simply does not have the financial leeway or flexibility to compete against such a tactic.

All Boris has to do is slash corporation tax

It would certainly scupper the Irish since Ireland is one of the Worlds largest corporation tax havens. Did I hear that Ursula has pledged to harmonise taxation in the EU forcing through such legislation using QMV? Not looking good for Leo is it?

Indeed not, Foinavon. We just need a PM who is prepared to play hardball. Will Boris be that leader? I don’t know. I guess we’re about to find out. Happy
Report brassneck July 25, 2019 12:28 AM BST
i thought all you guys knew what boris is at,but to me its a cert that he wants an election, how on earth would any sensible person go for a no deal,
why do you think they have not left already, the people voted the wrong way and it would destroy the country.but nobody  in government is allowed to say in public that the people got it wrong.because it was the MP'S who told all the lie's about what leaving Europe would do,they hoodwinked the nation. And now they are diluting the catastrophic consequences of a no deal.
Report Torquemada July 25, 2019 12:31 AM BST
I’n not saying Boris won’t call an election. That’s a very real possibility.
Report akabula July 25, 2019 12:35 AM BST
By the same reckoning Brassie why would any sensible person rule out No Deal?
An act of utter stupidity to enter negotiations saying that you will take the best deal on offer.
How good will it be well look no further than the deal May brought back.
Report Foinavon July 25, 2019 12:50 AM BST
The MPs and others were certainly lying to us in the run up to the election, preaching doom and gloom if we so much as vote Leave. Just look at the leaflet sent at great expense to every door in the land and recall the predictions from the then chancellor and the Governor of the BOE,
They are still doing it but their arguments have worn wafer thin. No positive reasons for remaining are ever put forward though, just the negative economic propaganda.
Report brassneck July 25, 2019 12:52 AM BST
no deal means no 38 billion for Europe.
no 38 billion means a country refuses to pay their national debt
no WTO Country is allowed to trade with any country that refuses to pay their national dept.
so no trade with any county.repeat ANY COUNTRY.
"HELLO,is that the IMF, we are a country in crisis ,we have no heat,no petrol,no food,no medicine,no oil,no internet,we have nothing and nobody will sell us anything.
Report Foinavon July 25, 2019 1:02 AM BST
The 38 billion is not national debt. It is the result of horse-trading at the beginning of negotiations in order for talks to even start on the understanding that nothing is agreed until everything is agreed. The EU started at 100 billion, where is the basis for all this? We will have some liabilities and so will they, I would expect us to pay our proven liabilities and hope they will pay theirs.
Anyway, we are not going to agree or convince one another so I'll leave it there for another day.
Cheers Brassy.
Report Torquemada July 25, 2019 1:05 AM BST
Being called “thick” or a “fool” by the likes of Anxious actually translates as a compliment, of course. The same sort of rule applies when multiplying two negative numbers. Happy
Report akabula July 25, 2019 1:06 AM BST
Beat me to it Foinavon.
Once we leave negotiations can begin again and the £38billion will be paid subject to us getting a fair deal.
Report Torquemada July 25, 2019 1:07 AM BST
Absolutely correct, Foinavon.

Any good negotiator worth their salt could probably argue that the EU owes us money. Cool
