Gave up on driving at 17 - had half a dozen lessons, but kept on turning around to try and lipread the instructor. He simply lost his nerve in the end.Spent £50 on a Morris 1100 instead, and gave it to my mate Pete. That way we were both mobile and I didn't have to drive.Had a great six months as teenagers with wheels, before we ran out of money even to refuel it, never mind MOT it. Found a siding up the hill behind the science block at the University of Sussex which was filled with similar rustbuckets. Parked it there, walked away, and, as far as I know, it's still in that siding 40 years later.
Why was the instructor in the back seat to begin with? That's quite an unconventional way to learn you your mirrors.
